PR Stunt

Not banned at all

The ASA ban adverts retrospectively after broadcast (IIRC) not a private company offering advice.

this is a decent explanation of how it was\wasnt banned...

These are all the problems with Iceland's banned Christmas advert | WIRED UK

as about as grey an area as a battleship that's just been repainted...

yeah talking about banning on all chats show and facebook starting petition etc
if john lewis are quick, they can't ditch elton and get attenborough into a the monkey pen at london zoo and have him shout at the camera "stop killing the f***ing planet you bunch of "

can't see how elton john would be any better imho...

It's not really a grey area though - it's a PR stunt

Only the ASA have the power to ban an advert and even then its retrospective after broadcast.

The company they used recommended not running it because it would get banned.

Nobody would ever pay for a 90 second commercial to run more than once.

Decent PR aimed at thickos who fall for this kind of thing.

I like it

I mean he ditched his mam when he’s famous but I like the message

It’s similar to the Nike one from a few years back when Rory is watching tiger as a kid and it shows you him falling in love with golf

I’m absolutely soft as shite though so maybe not the best judge of these things

A few years ago, and now fannies galore look forward to it, even though it's sells literally nothing.

The only good thing about it is the parody adverts it spawns.
For example:

Don't know about orangutangs in adverts, prefer a bird in a bath myself. Anyone remember Cadbury s flake advert circa 1990, wouldn't mind her in my Christmas stocking
