Perhaps we simply moved on. In the end, we’ve signed a right sided defender, which makes much more sense in terms of squad construction. Dropping £25m on a player who plays in the same position as Alderete always seemed strange.
 
Still think we will go back in Jan, if he doesn’t sign a new deal they may look to cash in and it’s clear we rate the lad extremely highly.
 
Love that so many people see it as black and white as it was done or not done. Almost like because it wasn't done, nothing could've happened and everything shared was bollocks.

It probably was very close, and high confidence from the club they'd get it done. Many deals other clubs had where a selling club was holding out for a fee did go through on deadline day, ours unfortunately didn't, and they acted to bring in someone else.

Geertruida and Mukiele are completely comfortable at both CB and RB, so not a big deal but may go back in in January.

Agree, just need to wait and see if he signs a new deal. Bologna don’t seem like a club who could risk his value dropping any further so probably will be forced to sell.

Given how it dragged on and how disgruntled him and his agent were I doubt he’ll give Bologna the lickings of a dog
Other than maybe Rome based teams, Milan teams and Juve, there are no Italian teams that can match premier league wages, plus the sign on fee.Plus the lad wants to test himself in the strongest league in the world with the best attackers striker.

Pretty clear we tried. He probably visited and agreed tge move broadly speaking having initially thought he’d get a better offer. Right or wrong his club paid hardball. The most likely outcome is we all lose, their fee will be reduced, he misses a season of much improved salary and we miss out on a player that was clearly a priority.

If they didn't want to sell him this summer they won't want to sell him in January, unless we increase our offer, which we won't unless we are leaking goals and desperate. .

His value won't drop between now and January, not with all the interest.
