Jason Roy

Square peg round holes. The Trevor Bayliss test method

Moeen batting 1-9, Bairstow jumping from 4-7 constantly. Launching in buttler as a specialist bat number 7 and now batting him at 5.

Root being changed back and forth between 3 and 4.

Amongst many other things.

Crikey, give him a little breathing space. He’s only 2 matches into a test career, let’s judge him properly after 8/9/10 test matches

I actually think he is a fantastic player and am not criticising him at all, I am saying it’s unfair on him asking to open in the Ashes when doesn’t for his county.

I want him in the side!

Should just swap Denley and Roy for the second innings and see how it goes. Have a feeling at least one of potentially three (Denley, Bairstow, Buttler) will be jettisoned if they fail again this test.

We had a man who transformed our fortunes in the World Cup and in brilliant form.

Full of confidence who could have done a excellent job at 5 or 6 in the test team.

What do we do start destroying his confidence by throwing him into the lions den when has never even opened in red ball cricket!

Just brainless thinking!

Which has been met by brainless batting.

I wouldn’t have picked him, didn’t think he was anywhere near ready - but his shot selection, yesterday and at Edgbaston was embarassing.

It’s still possible to play aggressive cricket with a decent technique and a bit of patience.

I think the form and confidence he was in, coupled with the total lack of depth we have batting wise, it was right to pick him.

But like I said before and after to ask him to open when not even doing it for his county was soo unfair on him, but yes of course he certainly has not helped himself either with the shots he has played.

Should be 5 or 6 if selected no higher.

Second Innings could have Burns and Denly to open theyve maybe got a bit more resistance to see off the opening attack. Root 3 Roy 4. Although Denly is hardly setting the Ashes alight either tho it was a gritty 30 he made, just mix it up a bit might work.

Who would you drop to accommodate him though?
