James Trafford as replacement for Roefs?

Obviously wants to leave City for first team football, been linked away for £27m this week. Would he be a decent option to spend a chunk of the Roefs money on

Would be home gown, only 23 year old, and obviously PL experience. There’s a reason City and the Mags wanted him last summer.

Presume we’d have to fight with a few PL clubs, including the mags?, but not sure any of the big champions league sides will be after him so could come down to wages and where he sees the club going.

Could have Elborg as back up with the opportunity to really grow and learn for a season or two.
Trafford couldn't lace up roefs boots ...
Like comparing margot Robbie to norah Batty

I think he's alot better than what some people think on here, quite a few City fans want him starting over Donarouma. Have a look on the thread on him on their forum, nobody wants him sold and see him as someone who should be their 1st choice for the next 10 seasons, yet most don't rate him on here, that's just typical of this place

Why is everyone so keen to sell Roefs? Don’t underestimate the challenge of season 2 in the PL… he’s under a long contract.. pivotal player. Remember our last exit from PL?
I don’t think anybody is desperate to sell him, a lot of people are resigning themselves to the likelihood that we will lose him in the summer though.

I don’t rate him and I don’t think he would fit our style.

A key to our success has been how fluid we are passing the ball around the back, and I don’t think Trafford fits into that, it’s one of the main reasons I feel that they peddled Patto.

In an ideal world, RLB wants the CB taking the GK to RR, the centre backs then split which beats the press as one striker can’t block a pass to the left and to the right simultaneously. RR plays to the open CB, then as they are pressed, that leaves either the FB or Xhaka open for the CB to pass to as it is typically their marker leaving their man to press, and FB/Xhaka is then afforded enough space to move the ball forward.

We repeat those triangles from open play all the time too, and I don’t see Trafford fitting in with that personally.

He may be a decent shot stopper, but I’d rather have a slightly worse shot stopper who can move the ball better, as it will result in fewer shots needing to be saved anyway if we can cycle the ball around the pitch and away from goal cleanly.
Eh?, Trafford is superb with his feet.

If we did sell Roefs for £60m and got Trafford for £27m that would be amazing business. I don’t think it will happen but I don’t think that price differential is reflective of their relative abilities.

What we do know is if we sell Roefs we will have to find a new keeper and it will cost a lot of money to get someone good. And there’s a good chance we are a lot worse off quality wise as a result which would be a real concern given we’ve done as well as we have this season due to keeping it out of the back of our own net.

No at all having a go and no offense - but I think personally anyone that thinks we can keep him is absolutely mad. You're as deluded as the Mags last summer with Isak. He'll deffo be off, and that's the way of the world.
You're probably right but it might not be this summer.

Where's the Roefs money come from.
Have i missed something???

How on earth are City making their £27m back by the way?

Signed him a year ago, dropped him after 2 games when they realised what a catastrophic mistake they had made in signing him, and now they're not going to lose on the fee?

I don't particularly like the lad, but to think that going feom Roefs to Trafford would be a massive downgrade are just kidding themselves.

Hes an excellent young keeper just like Roefs is and whilst I think Roefs might be the better keeper, I don't think there is much in it. Traffords shot stopping is better than Roefs from what I've seen but Roefs on crosses is up there with the best in the league. Both are very good with their feet as well.

Why would city sell Trafford for 27 million if we are pulling in 60 for Roefs?

He might well want to leave but that doesn’t mean they’ll accept 27 million for him

Reason I put that figure is this article, I appreciate the source isn’t any more then speculation. But you can’t expect City to be making a profit on someone they haven’t played this season
