James Brayne - Set Piece Coach

Crossing is not an efficient way of generating scoring opportunities anyway. Data shows only 1 in approx 80 crosses results in a goal.

It's why we strategically block up the center of the pitch and allow the opposition the ball out wide, as you're far less likely to score from a cross.

I agree to an extent, however, the data will be different from different types and positions of crosses. A cut back from the byline inside the box is far more likely to result in a goal than a deeper cross from wide, outside of the box. In fact for several years, it was Pep's way of playing. Triangles down the side to get a player to the byline inside the box and the crossed it for a tap in. If you want to create scoring opportunities with the highest success rate, then you need to work the ball to. Create those crossing opportunities.

Edit-my waffle above maybe not relevant for a thread on set pieces like.

But even for the 2nd ball we rarely seem in good positions to pick them up unlike a lot of teams have done to us, Forest were very good at it to sustain attacks

Set piece coaches get far to much credit and grief. It’s football its pretty basic. Put the ball in the right areas and have dominant headers of the ball in the box and you will score it’s not rocket science
