Jack Clarke

The deeper into the window it goes the more difficult it becomes to get a replacement for Clarke.

I know some will say Mundle is the replacement but the goals and all round contribution Clarke gives to the side would mean we’d be insane not to look for another quality player for that position.

I’m sure the club would sell if the asking price is met but surely there comes a point when selling is potentially so damaging to the season that they effectively just say he’s no longer for sale until January.

With Clarke in team, we will do better, which will increase the “value” of him and others. If we sell him and have average season, we would lose money on more than one player.
That’s a very good point marra

I don't get why he'd go to Leeds, apart from pure sentiment.

How much sentiment is left when a full stadium of supporters of your boyhood club spend 90 minutes booing your every touch for the crime of being kicked out the door for cash as a 17 year old? They won't pay the fee or the wages that he'd get with a move to the Premier League. Would be a pointless move for him, especially considering he'll have more options when the price comes down with a year left on his contract next summer.

Trillion% this

They finished 34 points ahead of us last season. Despite the well reported financial issues they’ve sold players for huge money and are supposedly about to rake in another £40m from another sale.

They still have parachute payments, money to spend and will more than likely be in the fight for automatic promotion. They’d no doubt offer Clarke a substantial pay increase and he supposedly supports them.

I’d be absolutely delighted to see Clarke at the club come August 31st and even more so if he signed a contract extension but to say there’s nothing but sentiment to entice him to Leeds is looking at things with very red and white eyes imo.

We haven’t, but time is running out to extend or sell in order to maximise value
This, exactly. We have leverage for now - but once his contract gets down to 18 month and then 12 months, we hold far fewer cards in this game of poker. Unless KLD/Speakman are looking in the mirror and honestly saying they believe that we'll be Premier League by the end of the contract, they've only got a few windows to sell at this value(unless they can extend him).

Do I want him to go? Of course not, we'd be much-weakened without him but you can bet Speakman and KLD will be looking at the business side of this much more than we, as fans.

I'd honestly stick and say no to any Leeds offers, providing he stays fit come next summer and continues his form he's either got a chance of being in the PL with us or will have a number of suitors that if they get into a bidding war will keep his value around the £18-25m mark

Their team on Saturday wasn’t as strong as ours, imho, and we were without Ballard and Poveda. They have lost their two best attackers and Gray.

If Clarke does indeed need to go to Leeds we should be demanding a f***ing huge fee. Championship record minimum. Not just cos he's class, but cos we also know Leeds are minted.

Moving to Leeds doesnt make a lot of sense form a footballing perspective. Hes first choice guaranteed here and a key man, loved by the fans and playing well. Finances aside no other championship side makes sense from risk reward perspective. If its just about money then I suspect it'll still be a lower mid table premier league side rather than a gamble on Leeds getting up this year. Unless its bonkers money he and we will wait

They still have parachute payments, it will definitely be a better contract for Clarke than we could offer him, especially with our wage structure.
Bit of red n white tinted glass on my part admittedly. But if money is all he cares about he can get a thick slice of cheese playing in the Saudi 2nd tier.

Given Leeds have sold their best players and we have a good core of young and hungry players, I find it hard to believe you'd leave SAFC and go to Leeds for football reasons

If Clarkes best option is Leeds, then it’s a bit of a kick in the plums for him.

If the end goal is playing in the PL, for PL money, then Leeds is a gamble. Arguably more of a gamble than playing this season for us and seeing what January or next summer brings.

He’s the main man here and the team is set up to his strengths.
