Jack Clarke

Where is SAFC the winner in this? 15 million is a load of shit for a player of his quality.
Who knows what the sell on percentage is. Say we have 25%. Clarke has a good season and someone buys him for 45m next season we could be quids in.

Not disagreeing with that. The player is worth what the clubs agree on. We, as fans, believe it should have been higher.

In Rutter’s case I can only assume his previous fee has a bearing on his transfer fee value.

Had they both came through the same route as Clarke, there’s no way Clarke goes for half the value of Rutter, so their previous fee must have an impact or influence.
Both us and Brighton have been ripped off in my view, Clarke is worth more than 20m, Rutter has done nothing to suggest he is a 40m player.

A club in the championship isn’t going to turn down much more than 20m if it’s responsibly run that’s just the reality of it.
There we go. Saw this coming a mile off.

Good luck to Jack we have to cut cloth accordingly in this division and get recruitment right to replace.

Unfortunately the money is too much to turn down, shows the financial gulf between the leagues.

Rutter has gone for £36m and £40m now. Somebody sees something in him that we clearly don’t. His previous transfer to Leeds at £36m has definitely had an affect on his transfer to Brighton.

I don’t see how it’s panic when we’ve rejected bids previously.

We’ll have had a number in mind this summer and it’ll have been reached

We've desperately tried to avoid a Ross Stewart situation going into next season.

Not so sure about having 'a number in mind' and it'll have been reached. It's more likely wanting to avoid the above and its the biggest offer we've had.

15m rising to 20ml (if it ever reaches that) wouldnt and shouldnt have been the number in mind.

Obviously disappointing news from a fan POV but part of life I guess. Difficult to know what the club should have done here for the best.

Jack obviously wanted a move to the Prem this window (as witnessed by not signing a new contract) and it would appear the only Prem team interested was Ipswich. Obviously, with only one suitor, we were negotiating from a position of weakness.

If Ipswich refused to go any higher than the £15m & £5m, not sure what we could have done- I guess a lot in here will say we should have held him to his contract and refused to let him go- that would leave us with an unhappy, depreciating asset who didn’t want to be here- probably not ideal.

The lad has been a great servant for the club and hopefully will now kick on at a higher level.
I'd be happier if we bought footballers that we needed and for modest fees. Not just refuse to buy them until we can shift our best player cheaply to pay for them.

Was always bound to happen, he's given us plenty and tbf if he feels ready for PL then he deserves to go for it. Ipswich will be hard though and very realistically he comes back down but it is what it is.
Major concern is do the club have a replacement lined up or not? I don't think Mundle is ready to be a starter even though i don't think he can be written off entirely.
Even though this sucks, hopefully we see two strikers in and a new winger to replace Clarke and i'll be ok with it.

Probably.
But if somehow we beat Burnley tomorrow then we should be able to beat anybody as they’re the best team in the league
Fingers crossed. I'm just absolutely gutted. I expected to lose him but 15 million is a kick in the balls (if I had any) and to Ipswich ffs. At least I thought we'd make decent money on him.

Bit of a pisser. Take the money out of it, the model, whether we replace him well or badly… he’s the player who more than any other has got me out of my seat with anticipation and excitement.

On a purely emotional level this is awful.

Now he is gone I want nothing less than the three attackers we have been linked with (isidor, mendy, simic). I don’t want to see this money sunk into a replacement, I want to see it wisely invested across the squad for the better, a good go at it this year.

Fair enough.

So you would have forced him to stay against the lads wishes. I get some people will think we should have done that, I just don’t happen to agree.

Players come players go, thanks for your hard work Jack and good luck.
It's what we do NOW that is important, replace him with better... we already have Poveda who will prove to be good, Mundle again will be good... but another body is needed! Mitoma at Brighton might struggle for minutes and they've spent alot of money, maybe we can tempt them with a big loan fee? I believe getting a top player for just one season isn't a bad idea if it gets us promoted... give them £10million loan fee for this season, helps their PSR, he stays their player and it gets us promotion and therefore pays for itself... rather that than buy half the player for half the money and not even half the outcome.

You on a wind up or drugs?

Are people more annoyed the fact we are selling him to Ipswich or the amount? I think most admitted he was going and 20m was the starting point so really with add ons etc we aren’t far off that. So I think and I’ll admit it, we are selling our best player to Ipswich. No offence to Ipswich, decent club, well run, very good manager etc but we are a much, much bigger team that is continuously failing to reach its potential. Or are we a club that has been on the brink of financial meltdown that is ensuring its long term future. Personally I’m furious we are selling him to Ipswich but that’s football.

I do think we will sign 3/4 players and not necessarily one to directly replace Clarke as have a couple who can play there, we will just have 2/3 more options in the middle that we haven’t had before. Big season for KLD this as one has gone and there’s 3/4 others that will happily follow if we don’t compete up the top.
