Burnley away night match late 70's.
Leighton James was playing for them we were all in the side, so bit of abuse going back and forth with James, he was basically taunting us.
Match ends we parked the vauxie transit at a WMC had a few pints and decided to hit the fishy then head back home.
Big queue but usual for that time of night, pubs closing.
In comes Leighton James, wearing his specs, goes straight to the front of the queue which caused a stir and his arrogance was a bit too much.
Gunner was behind me in the queue, I just saw him step forward and grab James, next thing I see his specs flying in the air before he hit the deck, f***ing class.
His mates or whoever dragged him out. We got our chips went back to the transit, doors closed and off. The plod pulled us over, opened the back door and on sighting about 15 vauxies crammed in the back scranning their chips and said something along the lines of somebody has assaulted a Burnley FC player,"never saw a thing was the load reply", "Serves the c..t right" the plod looked like he agreed and wished us a safe journey home
Case closed.
I stand corrected Vauxie, Thornaby eh, was it Big Steph from Hylton Castle with the axe in the park?
Joe Kennedy yes, the Seaham lads Cole brothers McTomneys etc.
Yes, Big Steph was with him although we were tooled up there was no axe.
Coles were HC not Seaham
Think we are getting hung up on "planned". No calls were made to the mags etc it was the 70s after all.
Obviously the skunks would be waiting as they always did, but this time, instead of the game lads being split up and going on different time trains, they all congregated on the same train. That's all I am saying.
However this congregation of Safc's frisky lads only came about because the lad I'm on about, dished out the cards in the RE etc so it was in part organised.
It wasn't organised at all certainly not from a Vaux point of view, we weren't even sure what train we would get.
The reason we had a big mob was because of 2 trains arriving together, one was held back for some reason.
Nobody ran that day we stood together not just Vaux all of us, the mags got done end of story.
Let's agree it was in Newcastle somewhere
You are a mag
