Risky, but IMHO it's got to be Root. Recently he's had a very confident look while playing his cricket, the look that a leader needs to have. Today he stood out as a man willing to lead the rest, even against more experienced team mates like Prior and Broad.

I just think giving it to him while he's still relatively new to the scene will mean he can grow into the role with a few to doing the job for a good few years, rather than doing what Cook has had to do, getting used to a particular role within the team, then having captaincy thrust upon him. I think it'll be the making of him, and hopefully of the team as well.
 

Root to remain at no5 could do it as he is supposed to have an outstanding cricketing brain.He would have to be surrounded with players of his generation like Hales,Taylor,Ballance,Jordan,Finn,etc.....a new look youthful England team.

why then was morgan given a central contract for all forms of the game and passed up an ipl contract, which you would assume, he might have been encouraged with a potential test call up? another example of pathetic management

I think Finn would have to prove he is over his issues first or he could finish his career completely.
 
Bell is in even worse nick than Cook. The whole team are in freefall, best thing would be to bring in someone uncontaminated by the last 10 matches, be it Morgan, colly, gale, woakes or Geoff Boycott's gran.
