I've never been to Istanbul, but it's a city I'd love to visit, to see the sights, experience the culture, and to try the food.

Brilliant place. We stayed just off taksim and the nightlife was great.
Took in a fenerbache and besisktas game which was brilliant.
Also kasimpasa who had papy djilibodji paying at the back!
You need a passolig card. Sort one now as it takes ages to get one.
Pissed it down the full time we were there haha

I used to live in Turkey so have travelled it quite extensively. Love Istanbul and Ankara both perfectly safe and as has already been said kebabs and proper fresh pide (pita) are lush.

We had a long weekend there a few years ago, stayed near Grand Mosque and it was like a militarised zone.
Since then, they have had a major suicide bombing at the old airport and another on an army bus in the old city.
Yet, we felt safe as individuals and the restaurant and bar owners were brilliant and desperate for trade so cheap, high quality and very welcoming.
Took an open top bus trip which was a great way to see the city, hopping on and off regularly.
Flew from Edinburgh with Turkish Airlines who were superb.
Just come back from Seville, which is my new favourite European city

The main shopping street is Ä°stiklal Caddesi which runs from Taksim Sq to the Galata Tower. Not much on the street itself but the side streets just off it are a maze of tiny alleys packed full of bars and restaurants especially around Nevizade
