Is Sunderland a city of the future?

Dont understand the argument around free parking - There isnt one city in the country where you can park in and around its centre for free, why should Sunderland be any different
Whiners who would have us think that they would be high rollers lashing out enough spending in Sunderland to rejuvenate dying high street retail into its former glory if only they didn't have to find three quid to park.

Aye, but only on the stretch of the 189/Grandstand Road between the 167 and the Kenton Road junction where the Kwik Fit garage is. It must be because that section of the road is on a canny deceiving incline. I’ve only ever managed to spot it when heading westbound in stationary/gridlock traffic when you’ve got the time to look around, it’s hard to see with only the top part sticking out so when you’re heading east and on the move it’s pretty much impossible to find because your eyes would be off the road too much.
Similarly on the way into the Tyne tunnel south bound, if you look above on the horizon you can see Penshaw Monument

One is done, the second is underway. Getting planning permission for a third in advance will mean they can do it at some point if there is a business case.

I’d assume there is already a business case, as the other factory only produced 100,000 batteries per year and sure Nissan produce more cars than that now. If it is a contingency it will be a very expensive cost to get planning permission just in case.

On a slight tangent from that, the Chinese have just created a battery that is half the weight of normal batteries but is also double the capacity, can charge to 80% in 8 minutes, non flammable and weather temperatures have no effect
They've completed R&D with the expectation that they'll be in HYPER-EVs (600+ mile range) by 2026.

For what it's worth, Nissan are working on the same technology (solid state batteries) and have just opened a small scale production line in one of their Japanese plants. Nissan, for once in a long time, is trying to get ahead of the game.

Leisure real estate advisory business Stärka has won two new instructions from Sunderland City Council.
The company has been appointed as an advisor on the council’s plans to deliver a 60,000 sq ft entertainment district (pictured) on the site of the former Crowtree Leisure Centre in the city centre.
Stärka has also been appointed to advise on the leasing of the leisure space within the Sunniside Leisure scheme.
Sammy Jones, co-founder of Stärka, said: “We are delighted to be advising Sunderland City Council on the implementation of its bold vision to transform the city centre. The entertainment district will be a new focal point for Sunderland’s social and cultural economy, and will be the perfect place in which emerging and established F&B and leisure operators can build thriving businesses. The quality, scale, and opportunity the council is creating are inspiring, and we share the team’s commitment to delivering something truly outstanding for the city.”

Real shame if its not going to be an arena or similar. That would fill the gap between empire and sol in venue size. It'd also bring jobs and visitors to the city. Interested to see what we do get though.
