Is Sunderland a city of the future?

It is ........but the city needs more ambition

e.g. the development of industrial units on the former glass works is an example:

its on the main gateway into the city centre and the best they can imagine is some industrial units!

aim higher
What do you envisage, sky scrapers. We need industrial as well as everything else.

There's already plenty of empty industrial units on the outskirts of the city....washinton...houghton etc with better road access rather than encouraging HGV's into the centre. Also there's plenty of brownfield sites down hendon would be better suited than this place.

Surely things can be more imaginative than industrial units!

But who needs to be more imaginative?

This is a private developer that is bringing the scheme forward.

A debate about whether the planning dept should push for a better scheme could well be hamstrung by planning legislation.
