Is Boro a derby?


When I look at the all time stats we must’ve smashed them for years because in my
Lifetime we hardly beat them down there.

For the record I can’t stand them .


But I detest the mags.

It's almost saying your players don't try cos it's not a 'big enough game'.
I'd also say that it being our 'cup final' is a load of tosh.
It's quite conceited and disrespectful imo.

Agree with a lot of that, particularly the bit in bold.
 
Become a bit of a joke among Boro fans how adamant Sunderland fans are that it isn't a derby......

Fuelled twice yearly by this place no doubt

We're their biggest game of the season
Didn't realise we were playing them
No history to the fixture as it's only been played since the 80s

Their derby, not our derby - a game against a time quite near by but in another county - only connected by where they drew the lines for ITV telly generations ago.
 
In strictest terms a derby is in the same city but it’s been more generalised over the years as neighbouring cities.

For me it’s neighbourly rivalry and there fire it is a derby. It’s also closer than Norwich v Ipswich, which is also Norfolk v Suffolk so dispels the Yorkshire thing.
