Imagine years ago how this forum would have reacted to was in and waqar reverse swinging it compared to how they would have reacted to Athertons dirt in the pocket it Tres applying sweets to the ball

He will probably get out now but I have never not been impressed with Foakes. His glove work is superb and he can hold a bat. He would be in every time for me. Butler, Bairstow etc need to earn their place as a batsmen. We seem to indulge the former, obviously a fantastic cricketer but just doesn’t quite fit in the Test team.
I rate Buttler and think he's been very good the last year or so but one thing he'll never match is Foakes' wicket keeping, best I've seen in a long while. If he can bat to a decent standard he should have a place in the side imo. I don't think Buttler is a poor WK by the way but he's not even close to Foakes from what I've seen in this test.

I think the thing I dispute about the pitch is the idea that if England had won the toss things would somehow be reversed. Our bowling was so so poor in the first innings I just don’t think that would be the case.

Buttler’s performance over the past year have very much shown he does fit into the test team.

Buttler earnt his way in as a batsman, he has been absolutely outstanding over the last year.

people have short memories like on here, not watch cricket this summer marra?
I'm a big Buttler fan but you must admit Foakes' wicket keeping adds a different dimension to the side. He looks brilliant.

No reason we can’t have both Buttler and foakes in. Especially with such a fragile top order. I think Pope is good enough to bat higher, so him at 3, Crawley and sibley opening and Lawrence and Burns missing out for me. If we’re gonna invest time in someone at the top, it might as well be in the two youngest ones with the most potential for future development, rather than Burns who’s much older and less likely to improve. Also think Jos could play 3 as he’s very clever and able to adapt very well, but he’d have to work at it and we’d have to accept some failures at the start.

Buttler wouldn’t have made the should be stumping of Sharma. That’s the difference. Buttlers good, foakes is world class

Foakes has shown what we all already knew that he is by far and away the best gloveman in the country!

That doesn’t change the fact I would still pick Buttler every time over him.
