India tour

Am in Goa at the moment. I have a Revolut card. Loads of places take it, cheaper restaurants don't, but then again in cheaper places there's no tax on the bills( 22% alcohol tax in bars). Alcohol is much more expensive in other states.

With Revolut, the State Bank of India ATMs are commission free. I read you can take out a maximum 10,000Rs a time. Did it twice, today, no problem.
Tuk tuks cash obviously. Even put 100Rs on a card in a bakery. As most games (apart from the last), are in big cities, it should be easy to use cards when necessary and cash when not. Modi trying to make it a more cashless society to avoid black money. I read that Indians are only allowed to carry the equivalent of £250 or so in cash. Can't imagine how they could police that.
I changed £20 notes into Rupees at 105 to the £ at a restaurant. 105.5 for £50 notes. Don't know if it would be so easy in somewhere like Rajkot.
Be aware that Rs2,000 notes are obsolete, so don't get fobbed off if you are changing in London.
If you have any, you need to post them to a RBI in a State Capital and then get the money paid into an Indian Bank account.
I'd have £400 in cash, just in case.
Is Goa still cheap? Was there back in 2017 for about 4 weeks. Lived like a king for about £500 in four weeks. was epic. a curry with some rice and beer was like £2.50

Depends where you go.
If you go to the popular street vendor, who opens up at 5 p.m, it's impossible to eat more than 50p worth of food and absolutely delicious.
Bought a 660ml bottle of Kingfisher in a bar last night for 150Rs. Low govt alcohol taxes here. 140 Rs for 330ml in the hotel bar.
Mains are around Rs 300, chapatis 20 or so. Go inland with no tourists, pay less. Delicious chicken samosas 11 Rs each.
Accomodation in shack on the beach £10 to £15 a night. Sky is the limit with Taj charging £1,000 a night.

Meanwhile, Goans are complaining about "Indians" and Russians. They don't seem to mind us.
Series starts in 15 days. UK broadcaster still not announced.

Sure 16/17 and 2021 were the same.
Think it was only two or three days last time.

Yeah what i've seen elsewhere.

Playing who blinks first with the BCCI is a commendable effort from our broadcasters.

Just would be nice to know who it will be. Be able to watch on work comp if terrestrial.

I think England need to start acting and taking things a little more seriously tbh.

They’re coming across like a boys club who would rather play golf and and have a little bit of a giggle at the cricket at the end of it.

If they get skittled for 150 in the opening Test and then come out with “that’s just the way we play” afterwards I might spontaneously combust.

I dunno they got labelled cheats last time. Not perhaps explicitly as that by the press but not far off.

This place and twitter was awash with it. I'd rather we be better prepared at playing spin, with better spin bowlers and try win in those conditions, than mention the pitch.

Was the same for both teams last time only Rohit and Pant batted brilliantly throughout series. That was more down to their series win than the spinners.

There's a balance and Gavaskar is wrong imo. In England pitches are either flat or there's a little bit of seam movement. When overhead conditions come into play it can move around a pitch but we don't prepare our pitches very much if at all. When was the last time you saw a genuine green seamer for a test match in England? In India its reasonable to expect turning wickets but two of the pitches last time were a joke after they had lost the first test on a flattish pitch. The pitch was breaking up in the first over and one of the tests lasted two days. Joe Root getting 5 for 8.

Shouldn't they have the Hundred? Mickey Mouse competition that it is

Very good ;).

Yep, weren’t called out enough for it last summer with the Ashes really, considering that by the time we got up to speed we were already 2-0 down.

A lot is made of the preparation bit with the cricket calendars so hectic these days I think the days of playing 3 or 4 tour matches prior to a test series are over.

I’m not saying I agree with it by the way as I’ve a feeling this series could end up being a watershed moment for ‘Bazball’

My prediction is 5-0. The Indians aren't to bothered about exciting sporting contests, their number one objective will be to lord it over their former colonial masters. Modi will demand nothing less. I doubt any game will go to a fourth day either, or if it does just for a couple of hours or so.
