India 🇮🇳 v England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 4th test Ranchi

And if we used our brains we'd have won them ;)

You'll note I'm not quite as an emotional as I was last summer. I'm just gutted again for what might have been.
I know mate, been down this road before😀

There was definitely room for improvement in that series.

But thought overall we were the best side in that series against a side who player for player had better individual players than us.

Which again is a another notch in the credit column for this regime imo get the best out of the players ability, to not win the Ashes just because of rain against a very very good side ( world test champions)

Foakes averages under 30, Buttler used to get slated regularly and averaged more.

His keeping is brilliant but outside the subcontinent im not sure you need a specialist keeper
He's not gonna have a 35+ average if he gets dropped every time the top order fails. How's he supposed to get used to Test cricket and different batting conditions if he's hardly ever played? He needs a settled run in the side, then assess.

He’s a canny player but yesterday’s innings is why they’ll probably look elsewhere for a keeper/batsmen. Foakes looked quite comfortable but he’s not suited to batting with the tail, if Bairstow is dropped I think they’ll go to Smith or Robinson

There's absolutely no way that the following don't play some CC in April/May/June

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Foakes
Bashir
Hartley (well he's lancs third choice spinner so maybe not )
Robinson
Anderson

Also glad to wake up and see we've done better than I expected but it's too little too late.
Wait and see

He's definitely going to get dropped again. You can just see it.

Which is harsh seeing how he performed with the bat in 2022 home summer. Match winning partnership with root and not out century off the top of my head.

We've got a 3 match series away to Pakistan after 6 home tests against WI and Sri Lanka. Be somewhat ridiculous if he's back in for them 3 tests after missing the next 6.
I don't think it is that ridiculous really. I think in the sub continent the difference his high quality keeping makes is worth any slight shortcomings with the bat. It could be that Bashir doesn't play in the summer tests but does in Pakistan as well.

All on the back of winning 1 in 17 before they came in. Since they game in against the 3 best teams in the world and the 3 teams that have contested the WTC over the last 2 years:

Aus 2-2
India 2-3
NZ 5-1

Obviously there is the first team in history to whitewash Pakistan in Pakistan and a series win against SA.

All said and done its been pretty impressive.
Yep, we'll always have 2022 to look back on.

Last three test series, no wins. They have some credit in the bank because of their frist 12 months, but at what point can we ask questions then?

They've played some braindead cricket in this series, and they've had collapses which at any other time would have cost people their places. This team shouldn't be exempt because we quite like them.
Couldn't come across more bitter if you tried.. Your desperate for them to fail and are hardly seen when things are going well
 You alright? You seem to have soiled yourself for very little reason.

Yep. The middle order have been shocking.

Duckett has had one big day out then largely failed. Same story for Root and Pope.

Stokes and Bairstow have been shit.
Stokes has had 4 pretty unplayable balls out of 8 man, made two good knocks.
Keeper situation going forwards is interesting. Bairstow is in dreadful form with the bat and wasn’t good enough with the gloves last summer. Foakes hasn’t really scored enough to cement his place and didn’t do well batting with the tail yesterday.

Wonder if they go with Robinson or Smith soon
Pope 6 as WK
Brook in at 4
;)
All seriousness, probably see Jamie Smith given the gloves in the summer

It's laughable man. Nowhere to seen when we are all conquering but just happen to pop up when things are not going as well.. Just admit it you hate the new approach and will be happy to see us scratching about for 50 before lunch

I do think it is somewhat ridiculous. He was our keeper at the start of McCullum tenure averaged 40 in the 2022 home summer then disregarded.

Harsh on the bloke to go right Ben thanks for playing 5 tests on the bounce, see you in October 2024 and you hang around until Feb 2027 for our next Asia tour.

Back him this year or find the next bloke who can keep in Asia(take them to Pakistan instead)

That's fine - i respectfully disagree. He's a great keeper and a useful batsman. If they feel the ethos and balance of the team is better served having a good keeper and a counterattacking game changing batsman at 7, particularly away from the sub continent I can see the logic in that.

Deja vu

I think we had this same conversation in 2022

Or along these lines anyway.

I just think either back him or if not were probably better off getting Robinson/Smith involved as Foakes showed he's no good batting with tail.

Jonny showed last summer his keeping not up to scratch potentially anymore.

I think England can always be criticised for playing poor cricket. They played nothing other than poor cricket and losing cricket prior to McCullum and Stokes. Now they play some tremendous cricket with some really poor stuff at times. They struggle to get the balance right sometimes - in this test match I think they went too far in trying to 'play the game situation' and went against their natural instincts and were too passive with the bat. Duckett will be furious at himself for weak defensive pushes and Stokes not playing a shot in anger and getting out for nowt. I think they tried too hard not to play 'braindead' cricket and didn't do what had helped them win 14 out of 19 test matches with most of them against NZ, Aus and India.

This will be me gone until at least the summer

You know who has returned with threads specifically titled so that if anyone starts others, they will report and get banned , especially me

Enjoy yourselves all , hopefully Durham and England play well this coming summer
