ID checks for away tickets

Agreed, this is why there should be a full consultation with fans and setting of clear, sensible and fair rules before fully implementing any checks and punishments. I would even say that it's fair for a couple to transfer the ticket between each other (and maintain the loyalty points) depending on who is able to take their kid that weekend (as long as adult and child are purchased together). As with anything though, this could be open to abuse. I think most sensible people would agree that there should be some kind of flexibility.
Two names on one card maybe?

Mr Sunderland Smith
Mrs Sol Smith

The card could only be used by one OR the other and would only accrue points in the normal way. But either parent could take their child, Miss Childfan Smith.

Yes, something like that would seem reasonable / fair. We should be flexible as a club to enable young fans to attend games. In most working class families both parents work as well.

So sharing a ticket / responsibility seems fair.

I know people that do it now - but they are running the risk of ID checks and sanctions. I don't think the club should be putting them in the same bracket as facebook sellers and points farmers though.

I would think they could put any names on one card. As many fans can only go to some games but would have a family member or friend who could go in their stead.

Mr John Smith
Miss Lucia Gonzales
Mr Freddie Jackson

One card, one point (where due), one named attendee. But would suit many for work/cost/family reasons.

Which works fine until there's an ID check.

Not really. Just have a process where the application states which one will go and allocate the ticket to that person electronically. It could all be done online by the person buying the ticket. Just about setting up the system with permissions.

Aye. I feel a right plum.

Some random knacker keeps saying I want tickets for
The Mags game (which I don’t and have never said I did) and I have to keep telling him that I don’t want a ticket for the Mags and have never said I wanted one.

I feel terrible about myself.

OK. I’ll be patient.

One last time, and try to read carefully before replying with a hilarious emoji.

You appear to be attempting to goad me as you have a ticket for the upcoming Newcastle Sunderland match at St. James Park and I do not.

As I have said a number of times, living in London and not being keen on Derby games as they bring out the worst in some of our fan base (as witnessed by you in this thread), I have no interest in attending the game in question and so have made no attempt to source a ticket.

This is the equivalent of me coming in here and telling you I have 2 tickets to see Giselle at the Royal Ballet next Saturday night and goading you because it’s sold out and you can’t get a ticket.

I’m sure that you don’t want a ticket for Giselle and have made no enquiries to purchase one either through legitimate or non legitimate means.

I’m not sure that this can any clearer so hopefully you can follow this and realise your misunderstanding.

See the previous replies. You can pay £600 for a season ticket and don't have to go to all the games.

I know the club have certain clauses now regarding none attendance. But I'm sure this was mostly regarding the cheaper kids tickets who don't go to enough games.

As far as I'm aware there's no issue with you forwarding tickets to friends and family for home games (bar restricted ones). So there are still ways and means.
How many people can afford to spend £600 on nothing but access to buy away tickets. I grant you it is possible, but I would doubt anyone would do it. I’m a SCH and travel from Winchester. I do a lot of miles.

Nice one mate. We all know what you said. Have a lovely evening

I know a few lads do it at Man Utd but they sell on half of their home tickets to do all of the aways.

One away game in London can cost the best part of £300 to £400 if you travel from up here and stay over.

I'm just saying that if people want to move to London for a career, then it's a financial sacrifice that they can make to build points. Rather than whinge about not being able to obtain tickets when people have spent a lot of money and time to build up their points.

To be fair I'd disagree there. And it's partly the reason the club stopped using the term "loyalty" points and moved to Black Cat Points. Because simply being in the position to travel the length and breadth of the country doesn't make someone more loyal, or a better fan. Some lads just do it for the piss up and the result is relatively secondary. You could have fans with quite a lot of black cat points who have only had a ticket 3 years. They live at home with their mam, have a job, loads of disposable cash. That doesn't make them a better fan than someone who doesn't go away any more but has had a season ticket for decades and never waivered.

I used to go to loads of away games. Largely stopped (only went to some of the midweek ones, work permitting) when I had a kid. Yes, I could have dragged him the length of the country at 5 years old but he wouldn't have enjoyed it and it would probably have put him off supporting the club entirely. So I gave it up to be a parent. But I took him to his first home game at 3, and he's had a season ticket since 6.

I've only got about 16 points now, but I'm not a worse fan than I used to be. I go to every home game, I recently spent countless hours as part of the supporters trust spending spare time trying to help when fans had issues, I've got my son into following the lads so the club will have another fan for years when I'm dead. Being in a fortunate position to have the time and money to go to the away games on its own doesn't mean you're a better fan. Better than some who rarely go to home games and don't really give a fuck. But in and of itself you're not more of a fan because you're able to go away most weekends

I'm not saying people in my position deserve the away tickets. Not at all. That's rightly done by a system which rewards those who are in a position to go most weeks. But the people doing it aren't better fans. I'm not a better fan than someone equally committed who can't afford to go to every home game either

Fantastic post this GG.
Its something that has always annoyed me when people claim to be a "better supporter" than someone else and this thread has certainly highlighted a lot of the bad aspects of football supporters with a hell of a lot of self righteousness being spouted.

Back in the days of Peter Reid, when I was being vocal at a home game about wanting him out, I ended up in a heated argument with a bloke in front about it. During the argument he trotted out something along the lines of "here man, I travel all over the country to support the team...."
My response, was that I couldn't give a shiny shite about him travelling as it doesn't give him any more right of an opinion than any other supporter (before then also pointing out that I'd missed barely missed a game for about three year which quickly shut his argument down).

I stopped putting SAFC before everything else in my life as soon as my first kid came along. I doubt I will ever be a "Phase 1" supporter again, but it doesn't make me any lesser of a supporter than those that area.

I have been told, that is was agreed at RAWA, that credit/debit cards will be accepted as id, but the club omitted it from the minutes. Awaiting confirmation.

99% f people carry a bank card with them (shows full name on them) so this would make perfect sense. Lose a bank card it’s a free replacement, lose a passport or driving licence it’s a costly replacement

How does having a bank card prove you’re that person. There’s no photo on it.

You could buy your mate a ticket on your number and give him your bank card in case he’s ID’d.

Think it’s £20 to replace a driving licence.

Having said that, I haven’t lost mine in nearly 40 years. This argument that people can’t carry photo
ID “in case they lose it” just infantilises fans- they’re adults for goodness sake.

If you lose your phone, it’ll cost £500 to replace. If you lose a £20 note, it’ll cost you £20 to replace.

I suppose it cuts down on touting. Yeah, it wouldn't stop you giving your bank card to a mate/ family member that you trust, but if I had a ticket and couldn't go I wouldn't be handing my bank card to some random from Facebook, or even from a branch.

There will be quite a few people who don't have a driver's licence, and equally I wouldn't expect people to carry a passport around on an away day, sounds like an easy way to lose your passport, so I suppose they need some sort of alternative. Bank card certainly isn't perfect but it would help with some of the issues they're most keen to clamp down on
