To be fair I'd disagree there. And it's partly the reason the club stopped using the term "loyalty" points and moved to Black Cat Points. Because simply being in the position to travel the length and breadth of the country doesn't make someone more loyal, or a better fan. Some lads just do it for the piss up and the result is relatively secondary. You could have fans with quite a lot of black cat points who have only had a ticket 3 years. They live at home with their mam, have a job, loads of disposable cash. That doesn't make them a better fan than someone who doesn't go away any more but has had a season ticket for decades and never waivered.
I used to go to loads of away games. Largely stopped (only went to some of the midweek ones, work permitting) when I had a kid. Yes, I could have dragged him the length of the country at 5 years old but he wouldn't have enjoyed it and it would probably have put him off supporting the club entirely. So I gave it up to be a parent. But I took him to his first home game at 3, and he's had a season ticket since 6.
I've only got about 16 points now, but I'm not a worse fan than I used to be. I go to every home game, I recently spent countless hours as part of the supporters trust spending spare time trying to help when fans had issues, I've got my son into following the lads so the club will have another fan for years when I'm dead. Being in a fortunate position to have the time and money to go to the away games on its own doesn't mean you're a better fan. Better than some who rarely go to home games and don't really give a fuck. But in and of itself you're not more of a fan because you're able to go away most weekends
I'm not saying people in my position deserve the away tickets. Not at all. That's rightly done by a system which rewards those who are in a position to go most weeks. But the people doing it aren't better fans. I'm not a better fan than someone equally committed who can't afford to go to every home game either
