Hume Hybrid Role

He's had more minutes than the majority of the squad this season and RLB named him Captain today with us sat on 33 points midway through the season.

He's had an off-day along with 5 or 6 others!

Having a decent season and unlucky not to have a couple of goals, we're too conditioned to looking for a fall guy!
Yeah agree, and maybe the extra responsibility today affected his game

Let’s not rewrite history on Hume playing a midfield role.

He was excellent last week, he was terrible today and rightly hooked at half time and could and should have been before.

Hume in midfield without Xhaka clearly does not work, we and more importantly RLB now know this.

Hume wasn't playing midfield last week, he was in from the right. Yesterday was different altogether as Regis had Hume's actual position as a CM to accommodate Mayenda and it was a f***ing horror show!

Hopefully, a big lesson learnt.

Hume shuludnt be even in the team full stop. Cult figure puts a hard tackle
That’s it
Tbh, pretty controversial but im starting to think Hume has served his purpose and we should move him on...

He is the player that frustrates most and in a way feel like he's holding the team back..

In a way your right, misses a multitude of chances when he's up the field and sticks the odd tackle in

Mukiele is on a par as being as bad at it when he does it imo. At least Hume tracks back, mukiele spent the entire first half v palace in any position other than the one he was picked at

Why does RLB keep insisting that Hume can play some kind of hybrid role in the team?

At times hes playing RCB/CM when we've played 5 at the back.

Today he played a kind of RM/CM hybrid.

It has never worked once and should be immediately put on the scrapheap.
It has kind of worked a little but only a couple of times when we are playing passive against top teams who want to dominate possession. It requires a lot of awareness and concentration. Giving him Xhakas role and asking to play hybrid was way too much of an ask.

We have a full squad back so hopefully we just play everyone in their favoured position from how on.

No more silly hybrid roles.

He always has been a risk defensively making stupid tackles...

And his not good enough on the ball to be in midfield...

Beginning to think Regis subbing him was a slap on the wrist for not following instructions. Le Bris is the boss but wondering if Mukiele thinks he knows better. He fucked up for the Summerville goal as did Reinildo so he needs to concentrate on his defending firstly instead of his attacking ability. Think he might confuse Hume at times. Best solution is flat back four and pick one of them and have a wide midfielder in front. Please God don't respect Burnley too much!! Away from home they are extremely limited.

At least he makes chances to miss, what did Mayenda do yesterday??

Hume was very good on the right of midfield and there was absolutely no need for Regis to stick him in the centre of midfield when Diarra and Geertruida are sat there. The gaffer had an utter brain fart, and the team followed up with a piss poor performance.

Regis doesn't want to drop him so is finding a 'system' that keeps him in the team regardless. i like Hume and he's been absolutely brilliant for us. but he shouldn't be in our strongest eleven. we've been ruthless with everyone else but he seemingly doesn't want to go there with him
We know Le Bris values flexibility in match

Playing Hume allows us to play 4-4-3, 4-4-2 and 5-4-1, that’s why he does it

I’m surprised he doesn’t use Geertruida more for this. To my eye he’s a better player than Hume and is also versatile enough to play those roles. Perhaps he’s not as tactically astute

It wasn't flexible yesterday due to only having Enzo and Sadiki playing meant Hune had to spend most of his time in the middle, which cooked things up. If Geertruida was in the Xhaka role, that would have pushed Hune our wide more, where he tends to float inside. Taht flexibility wasn't there yesterday and at times, it confused a number of our players not knowing where they should be.

It looked like a tactic to get Mayenda into the side, and ve more attacking, but it had the opposite affect.

Yes I don’t actually like it personally, I think it leaves gaps when players are moving around and I don’t think Hume is secure enough on the ball to warrant his inclusion in the multi role position

We have lost 6 games this season, only 4 teams have done better, so it kinda has worked, yesterday it obviously didn’t.

Mayenda played best pass of the game to Brobby early doors mind split them , hard to judge the wingers yesterday as we simply couldn’t string two passes together to get them in decent positions

He was very uncomfortable having that task today. He's best used out wide, and then he has the option to come in. Playing centrally is a total different ball game. The gaffer did him no favours neither by letting Hume struggle.

It was such a baffling selection when you look at who was available.

I found that out fullbacks where pushing way too high up the pitch when our centre backs had the ball it was leaving them with no passing lanes and forcing Alderette to try play mad passes through their full midfield then giving it away and we exposed

i mean given where we are in the league it's hard to complain but that was different yesterday. Hume was almost playing as an orthodox centre mid who occasionally drifted to the right. he didn't really seem to know where he was supposed to be. hopefully it's a lesson learnt for Regis and we never see that again

the Geertruida thing is puzzling like. and then O9 getting on the pitch before him. almost felt like a message was being sent

Mayenda was probably the laziest player on the pitch yesterday. I don't know what it is about him at times, but his attitude is a little too cool and he does very little to help his team mates out. When he gets opportunities like the one he got yesterday, he should be busting a gut to be in the managers eye, but he continues to swan about.

The best pass of the game didn't come from anyone on our team.
