I have thought about this. He doesnt really move so i think its not beyond the realms of possibility that he is a remote control model of the original what died years back.

Some people like that Miles Mathis I quoted seem to think he was swapped in 1985. That means his novel 'Brief History of time' might not be even written by the real Stephen Hawking.
