How do you feel about the Ashes?

BA (who have links with Root) reporting that Stokes will be having intensive physio on his finger over the next four weeks so sounds like he’s still in the frame to some degree.
Confirmation of above from DCCC. Screws removed and scar tissue removed reported as a success so presumably bone has healed. 6 weeks before party depart for Ashes,1st test 8th Dec.
perhaps sufficient time frame for him to be ready.Massive confidence boost if he's available.

Genuine question for those around at the time, is this what it was like in the 90s?

See, I disagree Rey, I think England are not that bad, won 6 away test matches in a row not even that long ago, I just think the pandemic has fucked them up and we are a bit all over the place.

I just think we have no chance in those conditions, especially after already playing 9 tests against India in a year

imagine how fresh Australia are, the ECB have sold Joe Root down the river, and he will be the one who gets blamed for it.

My main goal now is not to get myself banned on here before the ashes. As that would be a nightmare

The Rat going to be ridiculously polite the next few months now

aye he is

maxwell is too

not surprising they had nothing to do with smith, Warner and Lehman’s test team
No idea how you get banned in the first place tbh honest mate, you clearly know you cricket and it is simply about having good craic and good debate about cricket.

Tbh not sure why any people get themselves banned

The Times reporting it will go ahead as families will have their own resort, whether in queensland or victoria

Wisden pod made a good point today, saying basically the ECB awaiting on Root to commit really, and they wouldnt take a squad without him as he is so key

Stokes will not go

Buttler the only other player who might not be apart of it, in terms of senior guys

Christ Stokes must not be in a good place, what a shame that he will never play in Australia in the prime years of his career, I wonder if he will even see him at all any time soon? It appears extremely unlikely.

This is no slight at Stokes, but you have to feel for Root, I do anyway, we just cant win without Stokes IMO, and he has to head there again without him

Plus no Archer too who would be vital

Its gonna be a nightmare cricket wise like

Australia aren't even that good like, just got 2 brilliant bowlers and 2 brilliant batsman, and they can play in their own conditions. But I'd be amazed if we dont get hammered

Evn on the last series over there, tin hat on, but we weren't really that bad, we actually batted periods of time and bowled dry and solid at times, we just cant last 5 days in those conditions, for the big scores you need or the fitness and pace you need to take wickets.
Stokes has just had another operation on a finger injury that wouldn't heal. I think we already knew he wasn't in a good place but the ecb doing making him a temporary captain a few weeks back given his situation.
The Rat on best behaviour will be interesting 😂🤣
When's he going a start I wonder. Probably best if he gives us a heads up at the time.

Tbf mate, my point wasn't on how shit the side is, but more on going over to Aus with absolutely no hope!

fair

I felt that way last time too mind as we had no stokes. Take your point
I think last time we expected to lose, but hoped it could at least be competitive and we'd win a Test.

This time anything other than a 5-0 is incredibly unlikely

Bowling looks stronger this time I’d say. Not much change to the batting apart from Cook who was a little out of form (aware he scored a double hundred).

Still think it’ll be 4/5-0 mind

Dunno about bowling being stronger mind. I know it couldn't possibly weaker than last time but Anderson and Broad are four years older, Archers out, Woakes and Sammy are useless over there, no Stokes, still haven't got a spinner. Only positive for me is Robinson but even then we'll have to wait and see how he fares on their pitches.

Anything less than 5-0 I'll take right now, which is sad to say

it’s not in my opinion.
Robinson is handy but not gonna rip through them

we have no stokes or archer

we have wood basically

and they don’t fancy leach

an attack of Jimmy, Robinson, Wood, Leach?

with broad rotating, Woakes?

I just don’t see it personally

Last time we had Broad, Jimmy, Woakes, Overton, Tom Curran and Ali who averaged over 100.

Most of those still available plus Wood, Robinson then maybe Mahmood/Carse? I think it’s stronger this time than 2017.

Carse might play yeah

possibly when you look at that first attack. Minging for those conditions

stokes the bowler is probs one of our best 3 bowlers in the country for those wickets, almost a bigger loss than his batting
