How did Sunderland win the Play-Offs

Absolutely superb!

Who'd have thought that this time last year when you were doing the "to-do" and "ta-da" videos that 12 months later you'd be putting together a promotion video?!

Agree completely about this so called domination from the opposition and it was also the same against Coventry. Pundits and fans alike need to realise that possession that creates nothing does not equal dominating a game. The xGOT numbers were pretty much identical. I suspect this is something that we will be listening to a lot next season as I think we'll set up for the PL quite similarly to the way we did in the playoffs.

I feel Le Bris vs Wilder was a perfect example of a modern day tactically astute coach vs the old school manager who has a significant advantage of squad depth and financial muscle. Ultimately, the tactical flexibility won out in the end, but if you swapped the managers of both sides I think Sheffield United end up winning relatively comfortably, which says a lot about both gaffers.

Loved the VAR subtitles piece

A fantastic breakdown. That video will stand the test of time and be something that we're watching back as a memory in years to come. As a history teacher I'm sure that is probably part of your intention in making these?

Thanks @10 Trenches Deep and for all of your videos over the season (and prior). Enjoy a well earned break over the summer and I'll be looking forward to your preview videos of our new signings prior to the start of the season! ;)
Yes absolutely part of my intention is as a record of how we all felt at the time. I do try to talk sensibly about tactics and choices, but obviously I an inclined to be incredibly biased. I just want to try and explain the choices the manager and player make, if I can.

As usual I agree with all of the other stuff you say. Especially the manager part. I really do feel Blades are a tactically backward team and if Regis managed them, they'd thrash us. Glad you noticed the subtitles up there as one of my fave bits along with calling Farke - Ron Jeremy and repeatedly mocking Tim Walter's military jacket.

I will defo be doing all the pre-season stuff and new signings. I don't know if I will survive the official nature of Premier League copyright czars for these review videos to survive. If only there was some way for the club to help out in letting them continue in some way.

Lastly a big thank you to you for your support, you were one of the people who answered me when I asked for feedback on how to go about these review type videos. @Mowgli in another. Without both your early detailed feedback, we wouldn't be here to enjoy this result.

Class that thanks, superb analysis and insights. It also highlights the poor, lazy analysis we get from professional pundits.

They may have played the game at the highest levels, but are unable to explain evolving tactics within a game.

Very good analysis and did the job the commentators and pundits are paid to do and can't, you illustrated how we largely dominated play after the VAR goal. Thank you for taking the time and a nice conclusion to the footage we have all been rewatching since the 24th.

Slight pedantry regarding the pre kick off comment about Dan Neil being the first local lad to captain us at Wembley since Raich Carter, local lad Barry Venison captained us at Wembley in 1985. Of course, by the end of the match you could say, and did. that Dan was the first local player to captain a winning Sunderland side at Wembley since Raich.

Ahhh, when I was writing it I remember thinking Barry Venison and checking his birthplace. I don't know why I got that wrong first time, must have been over exciited. Hey ho...won't be the only thing I'm sure.

The amount of times in the last 10 days I've been told I was wrong by people who like @10 Trenches Deep says were listening to commentary 💩. After 20 mins They had no idea how to beat us. Hoof to Moore. I till think Pattos save with legs would be disallowed too as it's accidental hand ball and these aren't given. Class as always mate.

Right then. Here it is. Too young, too naive, lacking experience they all said. Well the pundits were wrong.

They were also wrong about Sheffield United dominating the game. The first 20 minutes Sunderland were under the cosh, but slowly through a series of small tactical changes Sunderland grew into the game and ended up dominating possession and having almost as many shots and chances as the Blades. So what did the pundits miss and just how did Regis Le Bris turn the youngest team in the Football League into Championship Play-Off winners.

Well come in and take a look and do me a favour; stay 'til the end'. There's a treat to finish with. Enjoy everyone.

Brilliant again mate, tears of joy from this 66 year old boy.

I think Consett counts ;) He was the youngest Wembley captain at the time though I'm not sure if that is still the case. Not knocking you, really enjoyed it and as I said above, you told the truth aboutthe game, not just the opening 20 minutes.

Brilliant stuff all round mate and I'm delighted to have helped in a small way.

Regarding the PL videos, they do seem to have loosened the grip on copyright over the last couple of years. I think it's probably down to the "influencer" era and realising that the increased publicity and viewership is actually of benefit to them, and that people enjoy clips and videos etc! The more eyes on their product, no matter how it gets there (within reason) the better.

It's going back a while now, but they dropped a long-running (5+ years) case they had against YouTube relaying to copyright. While that court case was ongoing they had even prevented clubs themselves from showing any on-pitch action and limited to behind-the-scenes videos and interviews. Crazy stuff.

I'm probably as far from an expert as you could get on this, but it seems as long as clips are kept short and provide some of your own insight and commentary going down the route of "educational use", which to be fair, it very much is!

The below video is a good and very recent example of the structure that seems to get through the copyright filter. I'm sure you could get away with including a few more clips than what he has included but as a general guideline it's not bad:

Kept powder dry and players fit. I thought it was obvious he was doing that but many didn't, including you, i must say. Your video before the play offs was only one I disregarded. It was clear to me he was refreshing and rotating. Anyway, great stuff as nearly always.
