How did Sunderland win the Play-Offs

I know we were making the running and had most of the ball, but up until the point we actually scored it did really feel like Sheffield United had us under control and still looked much more likely to score on the break, whereas we were looking bereft of ideas with little idea how to get through them and some very poor passing.

At least that's how it felt to me in the stadium, and everyone around was saying something similar.

When the goal came though it was absolute magic and we were completely dominant thereafter.
As he explained though, that first goal also coincided with amsubs and a change of shape. No coincidence. Wait until they're blowing and then attack, attack, attack

Another great video. I enjoyed the corrective to the media narrative that we were completely dominated for 70 odd minutes. It was so annoying hearing the coverage bias during the match.

On Kieffer. Yep, you nailed it about them essential using a direct ball to him as their primary tactic. Problem is, his goal tally is mediocre, and he has no assists to his name all season. Zero. None. Didley squat. Looking for Quinny-esque flick-ons to a strike partner to put away? Or knock-backs to an attacking midfielder pushing up to shoot? Just the sort of thing you might expect from a player of his type - well, it hasn't worked for them all season. Yet they persisted with it.

On the narrative going round that we only won because of their mistake (Moore's loose ball). Well, that is what happened. However, that's taking the moment in isolation from the match. We made mistakes too. Teams do, especially late on in matches. Neil made 3 errors in succession before he went off. Cirkin made a major blunder that you covered. It's really about who has the presence to capitalise on the inevitable errors. We did. They didn't. (Same in the Coventry first leg, with Mayenda's goal).

Thanks not just for this vid, but for all your work over the season.

Right then. Here it is. Too young, too naive, lacking experience they all said. Well the pundits were wrong.

They were also wrong about Sheffield United dominating the game. The first 20 minutes Sunderland were under the cosh, but slowly through a series of small tactical changes Sunderland grew into the game and ended up dominating possession and having almost as many shots and chances as the Blades. So what did the pundits miss and just how did Regis Le Bris turn the youngest team in the Football League into Championship Play-Off winners.

Well come in and take a look and do me a favour; stay 'til the end'. There's a treat to finish with. Enjoy everyone.

The stat at the start - the first local lad captaining since raich carter, is that just for us or any team at Wembley?

The feeling was tangible in the stadium from 70 mins on that it was coming

Tbf he did a superb knock-back in the 95th minute

Excellent stuff mate. Few things I didn’t notice that you pointed out, firstly how long Le Bris actually waited before confirming Mepham coming on, he really didn’t want to change things that early. Also the way he introduced his subs methodically.

Also forgot about the moment Roberts appeared next to Kieffer Moore at the end. Looks like a naughty schoolboy and his face before he shakes his hand is classic

Just for us, but I got carried away. Barry Venison captained up out in 1985. I get it right at the end. Neil is the first local lad to Captain Sunderland to a win at Wembley since Carter.
Cheers mate. Its an unbelievable video and i cheered our goals as if i was watching it live. One of the best days of my life and so much thanks for all the videos you've made, absolutely legendary you.
