How did it go so wrong for Leicester?

I thought Leicester were in decline when Breadbun went there but things went better than I expected, especially their FA Cup win.

The death of their owner is at the root of it and they didn't back Breadbun last summer so he talked himself out of the job.

They spent a huge amount on a new trainIng facility at Seagrave, which is up there with Man City's. They have also invested in ground extension, both at the expense of player recruitment. Plus an ageing squad and perhaps a naive owner (due to very unfortunate circumstances) who never thought relegation was a possibility until too late.

However, excellent infrastructure & parachute payments suggests you wouldn't back against them next year.

I know many think they'll walk the championship but it's going to be a difficult summer.

Loads of players out of contract in the summer including Tielemans, Amartey, Soyuncu, Evans and a few more.

They have a massive wage bill, players like Vardy on 100k+ a week who will be hard to shift. Daka and Iheanacho both on reportedly big wages.

Maddison and Barnes will definitely be off and I can see there being clubs interested in Dewsbury Hall and Castagne.

There's a decent core of youngish players there and they'd probably have a solid enough defence on paper with Faes, Souttar, Justin and Thomas but in front of that I think they'll need a complete overhaul of the side.

I can see them pulling a bit of Stoke and ending up mid table next season.

The National Trust have put a bid in for Dewsbury Hall. They’re facing stiff competition from English Heritage.

From winning the league to relegated in under 10 years.

It seemed like with the right transfers they could have established themselves in the top 6 after winning the league yet it's all just gone tits up for them somehow.
Covid screwed the owners duty free business and they had to cut back on other business ventures. Leicester have a massive wage bill and it won't get better next season with a number of players not having relegation wage cuts. According to an article I read they owed £344million but the owners have written off £190m.

They are in hock to an Australian bank which gets quarterly £19m interest payments:eek: which were funded by PL TV money.

The parachute payments will sharp disappear next season. They could be in a lot of bother financially. Could be interesting.

Wage bill apparently £180m this season.

Massively overachieved and then had a few disastrous transfer windows.
Lee Congleton effect!
This.
Previous 3 seasons were 5th, 5th, 8th.
They weren't doing too badly before the world cup iirc.

Lost their opening 4 games, then turned it round a bit. The next 8 games before the world cup they won 5 drew 1 lost 2.

World cup probably stopped their momentum.
After the world cup they lost 4 in a row.
Then drew one and won 2. They were still probably looking ok at that point, just waiting for things to come good. After all they'd been decent enough in previous years. Board showed too much faith in Rodgers imo and held on too long, because after that brief revival they went 9 games without a win, losing 8 of those 9.
By then they're knee deep in shit and it's the middle of April. Losing mentality and every game high pressure
Premier league, you need to spend £200million a season to stand still!

£78m a year wage bill if what I've read is correct ? And they can fuck off with the clackers and goal music as well
You won't get many Leicester fans disagreeing with that. It's been raised to the club various times about the horrific goal music and the clappers.

They finally got rid of the clappers this season but decided to bring them back for the last few games in a misguided superstition as they were first introduced at the start of our great escape in 2015.

We also have t-shirt cannons at half time, thankfully these now seem to have been dropped when everyone started lobbing the shirts back on the pitch. Not to mention 'Fan Cam' with commentary by the PA guy.

The whole club is run like a Butlins camp, the brilliant infrastructure we built up under Pearson has been torn apart by Rodgers and Rudkin and now it's just a massive fun day out for the happy clappers. Behind the scenes, the club once awash with innovation and forward thinking has been replaced by a board full of non-football people brought in to make going to a football match a family fun day

Any sign of descent against the owners or how we're being run is drowned out woth threatening behaviour.

They won't release tickets to General Sale, only able to buy a ticket if you also fork out for a membership. Pricing more people out of going.

No accountability, you hear nothing from anyone and any time there seems to be a bit of questioning they offer a free donut or some near out of date shitty beer and get the media saying how brilliantly we are run.

The fan base has never been more divided. Those that have raised valid concerns about where we were heading in the last 18 months have been drowned out and threatened.

We aren't, we are a mess and I'd be happy to see the back of almost everyone.

I've never felt more disconnected.

Cvnts.

Any club capable of establishing themselves in the top six would’ve already shown some signs of it somewhere back in their history. Leicester never have. Neither have WHU, Brighton or Brentford. Villa, Newcastle, City and Everton have.
