Actually worth it?

Want to take my lass as a treat but I have an aversion to paying loads of money for meals where it’s all hype and not actually that good.

Don’t mind paying whatever when it’s something genuinely great.

Anywhere better in the North East that’s maybe not as hyped up?

Go to The City Bistro in Sunderland. Similar style and quality of food, fraction of the cost.

Or Peace and Loaf in Jesmond

I went there and had a taster menu meal and it was OK. Struck me as way over rated. I had a better meal at Angelo's in Sunderland.

Was there in July... cracking meal. Expensive but couldn’t really fault it. Wine prices good as well

Have a look at Peace & Loaf as well. A bit more modern

I've never been but always fancied it,heard mostly good reviews.

Personally speaking why not go to Edinburgh for the day and go to Tom Kitchin's place?

Needs to be local as need to maximise time spent doing DIY.

It’s as a thank you for her basically deciding what colours I should paint my walls and what colour my furniture should be

We probably wouldn’t do the wine flight as she’s not a big drinker. Last time we did that with a tasting menu I almost had to carry her into the taxi.

I've been. It's good like, the only thing is I've only ate a couple fine dining places at Michelin standard so don't have that much to compare it to.

Another vote for Peace and Loaf
Everytime I've looked at the menu I've not been overly enthused so never gave it a shot yet.

I’m going in a couple of weeks again. It’s fantastic. Wanted to go to Peace and Loaf because I’ve not been yet but they couldn’t accommodate us on this particular date for the tasting menu.

If you aren’t doing the wine pairing then I’d recommend The Raby Hunt ahead of House of Tides every time, though. Assuming you drive, that is, seems a bit of a fuck on if you were to get the train to Darlo.

We’d probably drive to Darlo.

How come the lack of wine flight pushes you that way btw?

Just in terms of a driver. If you have a driver, I’d choose The Raby Hunt over House of Tides. If you’re both drinking, however, it makes it a bit more of a fuck on to get to. Train to Darlo then taxi.

Both are superb but The Raby Hunt is better. It is 2 stars, after all.

The Raby Hunt has a great reputation. Would love to try it.
It’s brilliant.

Ah right.

Tbf if she’s staying sober I’m not going to go my ends so if we were driving I’d only have a few glasses.
