Highest ever average attendance.

i think you underestimate our fanbase.
It's the chance of a lifetime for most of our fanbase, and people will budget accordingly for it.

Club just need to get it right with the ticketing and marketing.
We have one less Caribou cup game to play so there's one of the 4 home games knocked off as a potential expense for fans.
I forgot all about the League Cup benefit

What a time to be alive!

And make it clear from the start that season ticket holders will have to attend if they want to have a chance for tickets to any future glamour ties.
Charge them £50 a ticket, and if they don't attend every game, restrict the bastards from buying in future.
That's the way to reward the loyalty over the years through all the rough patches.
Why should part timers miss out on the big matces?!

Really? I’d have thought they would absolutely be sell outs.
Was thinking about this last night. Assuming the tickets are going to be closer to £50 than £30 . I could definitely see empty seats mind.

Charge non ST holders more for their ticket ?

What was the official attendance on Sunday I can't find it anywhere I couldn't see an empty seat surly the best of the season bar the visitors

All 4 initial home games will sellout comfortably.

The buzz around SAFC and this team at the minute is off the scale.

The Europa League is a massive deal for us and not many people will want to miss out. The excitement will start to build again at the back end of August when the draw takes place.

Season ticket holders are already at the front of the queue for the early rounds of any cup competition. If they choose not to attend then why should they get priority for later rounds. Sales for glamour ties should be something like :
Phase 1 - Season Ticket Holders with X BCP
Phase 2 - Anyone with X BCP
Phase 3 - Season Ticket holders who couldn’t be arsed to turn up for the early rounds
Phase 4 - Bandwagon jumpers.

Be higher if the safety committee opened up the first 5 rows in away end .sure it was about 900 seats go unsold , that would enable another block P21 selling to Sunderland fans

I’m not sure why this would make a difference to anyone.
Of course it makes a difference. Opening the ground up block by block is absolutely tin pot as fuck and encourages a shit attendance, also treat fans like 2nd class citizens with no staff on the turnstyles etc. I upgraded to Quinns for our last home cup game which was the Huddersfield game, to avoid this complete crap. Just put the ticket for the cup games into every season card holders account baskets so they just can log in and buy them, if they don't buy them, they go to general sale. Open the whole ground so people can sit in the usual place with their friends and family etc, where they always sit.

Our highest ever average attendance was 47.785 in 1949-50 when we hoyed away the league title. Does any body know the official Crowd for Sunday as I can't find it anywhere?
This is something I did a while back that is all the league games attendances and a running average and I may update it one day for this season. The red line is a running average of the last 20 games and each blue dot is an attendance. You can see the peak at 1950 and the decline later that decade as we got relegated for the 1st time.

This is a closer look at the post war average and the last time we were in the Premier League even in the shits seasons.

Crowds fluctuated massively back then and this is the 1949/50 season on StatCat. Look at how the crowds tailed off that season in the last 2 games after the title was gone as we only got 23k against Everton and 21k against Chelsea.

Through the season it was usually dependant on opposition and their players such as Stanley Matthews & Blackpool for example. We got 61k on a Monday game against Blackpool, yet the game 2 days earlier on Saturday against Burnley we got 47k. Also bear in mind pre 70s, possibly some of the 70s fans went to both Sunderland & Newcastle games as again it was to see opposition teams and players, not just the home team.

One thing that is constant is crowd fluctuation for various reasons. At the SOL, it's around 10,000 unlike Roker Park which could be around 30,000. The problem with the SOL is it's restricted due to capacity and the lower crowd is now mid 40s so you'd expect peaks into mid 50s. It's clear that if the SOL had the 70k capacity of Roker Park we'd be well over 50k for the average this season.

The problem is that sell outs mean higher ticket prices. If it stays like this and prices go up again to suppress demand then a bad run could well see a bigger drop off in numbers. The fans who were priced out also won't come running back to take the seats of the more affluent who've given up as their not 'entertained' or those who've been pushed to their financial limits.

Long story short, it's pointless comparing crowds of yesteryear to now due to so many different factors as a percentage of population going to matches back then to now is massive for example. The SOL clearly needs expanding to keep that balance of ticket cost and capacity and who gives a fuck about the 'hurty' words on the internet from the mags, or any of fans about empty seats. There was nowt like that back in Roker Park days, just the ability for just about everyone to go to the match if they wanted. These days it's not just a constant of 45,000 wanting to go either.

Nice representation, IIRC we would have averaged over 50,000 in 1949-50 if not for two relatively poor crowds once we'd bottled it. When you look at the vast spread in crowds of yesteryear it makes laugh at the empty seat brigade.
