Highest ever average attendance.

4 home 4 away against turtley different teams then mumble mumble bluff lie bluff bullshit etc
I relented and googled it. Sunderland straight into the league phase along with some very good teams. I'm not a fan of Wikipedia but their explanation was much more succinct than yours. It's a shame your glass is half empty.

Cups have sold pretty poorly but this should sell out with it being out first time in Europe for the majority and a chance for people to go to a a game if the league games are selling out

It will be interesting how they price the tickets. I pressume season ticket holders first.

Cat 1 or 2. etc. rates?

It might be an idea to offer a discounted deal if you buy all 4 home games as a package for the first phase.

I only wish me da had felt the same for the Vasas match in 73. He blamed the club for putting the prices up. If anyone thinks the current regime won’t do the same then they’ve been living under a rock for the last year or so.
Exactly - 22,000 for Vasas game, about 30,000 for Sporting Lisbon, but then 38,000 for a league cup game against Derby!

All due to price hikes back in those austere times. With all the current cost crises, any price hike might adversely affect attendances. They should actually drop prices for the European games as a reward to the fans (unless its AC Milan of course).

Sadly, our fanbase is not known for supporting cup football over the last 20 years or so (eg Man Utd LC semi-final), unlike the Saudis who do seem to attend cup games in good numbers.

Half empty?

Really? I’d have thought they would absolutely be sell outs.
In our one previous venture into Europe back in 1973 the club upset fans by charging too much. Crowd against Vasas Budapest was only 22,762. Contrast that with 30,000 for the FA Cup 3rd round replay against third division Notts County the previous cup winning season. Seem to recall we had to pay a sizeable sum to have the floodlights upgraded for Europe. £25k rings a bell but bear in mind we only paid £30k for Vic Halom! 😀

Just looking at the attendances and this season has been the highest average at 46,800

Which is slightly higher than 2001/2002 & 2000/2001.

Another season like this and the board must seriously consider the south or east stand being extended.
They won’t though
They’ll just keep whacking the ST’s up a Ton a year
Be amazed if they don’t offer a package for the European home games….ill be buying one
I’m sure they will as it’s the quickest way of getting money in for 4 games

As a parent I think it would be unfair to deny my kids the chance to experience what could be a once in a lifetime chance to see European games.
Yeah
Told my lad that you have to get to these no matter what. I've waited 46 years for this from my first Sunderland game. Far less for him! Told him it might be another 10 or 20 years or never before we get the opportunity again.

Won't be able to go until after January due to a lack of annual leave. Would be very surprised if the games don't sell out (or very close to) - might make some of the PL games more accessible and appease those who still think that 10k are being locked out each week

I was at this match which was probably the highest attendance that season ,add another 20 % to this would be a figment of a vivid imagination.

Sunderland 2 v 1 Bolton Wanderers
19 April 1976, Roker Park, Football League Division 2
Attendance 51,983
Palace cup game was
