Don't believe the crap about Fats either. Firstly, the biggest myth out there is that the fat that you eat will make you fat. Nonsense, the fat you eat will not put an ounce of weight on you.
There are good fats and bad fats, same as there are good and bad Carbs. Trans fats are by far the worst (margarine for example). Butter is better. Try this test at home - place a tsp of margarine on your hand, then run the hot tap and try to wash it off, you'll have a hell of a job. Then do the same with butter. It will wash off immediately,as it is water soluble. Which of these is most likely to block your arteries?

Hmmm...

I was diagnosed when I lived in Spain. Its always 198/110. They prescribed CO-Aprovil & it sorted it out and brought it down to 133/80

I moved back to the UK and was told CO-Aprovil is too expensive for the NHS to prescribe.

They have tried me on loads of different meds over the last 5 years. None have lowered it one bit.

Latest is they are sending me to the Eye Specialist next month.

Good old NHS.

Can you get it over the counter over there, as I buy some of the prescribed stuff here over the counter in Tenerife, wondered if that was one of them

Yes, it can be done. Hard to do, but high BP is a major problem in this country Cut down on smoking / alcohol / salt / caffeine / high fat foods Increase exercise, lose weight and eat healthy diet

I missed this post first time around, the bit I have highlighted is not the only issue this country is facing healthwise, I sat waiting at the hospital and the amount of people waiting who not just appeared but were obese is frightening, compared to what I remember as a kid years ago, the uk is a ticking timebomb through lots of the bits you mentioned and how many kids graft now, not many I would suggest

major changes all over. seen changes in my call of duty play also as exercise and eating affects your thinking and my reactions are quicker than joe public.

i was going to say if you smoke & drink & eat shite you should pay MORE car insurance as it affect's you mentally (eat shite think shite :-D). I'm allot sharper on COD

I told you 1st :p I should charge for my knowledge  I always say the answers are infront of you, its upto to you if you can see them ;)

Everyone knows exercise increases your fitness levels by making the muscles more resistant to fatigue. Now scientists have found a regular gym session could sharpen the mind in exactly the same way

Low salt intake is good advice.

Also, get yourself a good Herbal Tea Detoxifier, and use for a month every 4-5months. This will flush your arteries, and help to eradicate what is commonly known as 'furring of the arteries' which will allow your blood to flow more freely, thereby reducing your blood pressure.

The 5 a day fruit and veg thing is only half right. This is because all carbohydrates, whether simple or complex, will convert to glucose (Sugar) in the body.
You must be careful not to eat fruit and veg with high sugar conversion rates. For example, there is more Vitamin C in a floret of Broccoli than in 2lb of Oranges, and the Broccoli has a very low sugar conversion rate (1 floret = about half a teaspoonful), whereas 1 orange alone = 5 teaspoonfulls. The average Brit consumes about 55 teaspoons of sugar per day in their food, which is about 3 times the safe level.
Too much sugar in your body, leads to the Pancreas secreting Insulin to reduce your Blood Sugar level. Insulin is a Fat-Storage Hormone, ie, it stores fat on your body. You gain weight.

Get some Omegas 3,6 and 9 (£4.99 for a months supply at Asds). These are Essential Fatty Acids, ie, they are essential because the body needs them , but doesn't get enough of them these days, due to them being processed out to prolong supermarket shelf life. These will lubricate your joints, eyes, brain and arteries, like an engine oil in your car, and will help to prevent 'hardening of the arteries', which can lead to a crack in the arterial wall, which is a common cause of Heart Attacks.

Hope this helps.

Good post that marra. Lot of sense in that.

Easy solution which significantly reduced my BP , take Beetroot tablets/capsules cheap and no side effects .

was at the doc's this morning and ive got it, although not high enough to prescribe any medication as yet. Says i have to make some lifestyle changes like losing weight, exersise more, keep off the tabs and reduce the pint intake? Anybody managed to lower theirs via such crazy notions?

Are you Eddie Yates?

A small incision on your wrist will help lower it mate...;)

Like I said , for me they work, the NHS and GPs are always dismissive re natural remidies .
I also have more stamina and energy and I am 52 -for me they are the dogs bollocks .

I don't think that page is necessarily dismissive. Just says that a shit load more research needs to be done. The effects of nitrates are well documented.

Is it possible you've also changed your lifestyle a bit as well as taking the beetroot tablets?
