What evidence is there of him being that level?

Well he played 44 games in his last season with Hibs who finished 4th and was regarded as having had a very good season. Aberdeen were after him this summer until it was made clear he was going nowhere. I would say finishing top end of SPL and being wanted by a team who consistently finish top end of SPL would be on par with a lot of higher end Championship teams.

Or is this a case of the age old argument that nobody from Scotland is good enough for England's top tiers....
