In my experience offense is taken beause stupid Brits don't know the difference between them and Hindus.

As a kid I knew an absolute cretin of a girl from the north side of the river called dianne, I was flying to Delhi and she actually said "India? What yer gannun there for, its full of f***ing pakis"

Not at all. Seemingly lots of Brits just generically call brown people Pakistani. There's a general store owner in Trimdon who get's known as 'Jack the Pak' even though they're Indian.

I get that (and I agree) but you said they were confused with Hindus. 2% of Pakistanis are Hindus. I'm guessing it was just a late night typo.
