Geertruida

Id say it’s pretty fair given what we know

This will have been in the works for at least a few days. It’s not a huge step to think this is why he didn’t play v West Ham
I can only think this was the case as it was pretty clear he was the obvious replacement for Xhaka in that role, but if you have your head turned then you are as Reggie puts it connected.

Yes it is plausible but my point is no one knows for sure. Actually think he will definitely get more minutes there than here as a RB for the short term at least which will help his WC chances.
Yes I agree nobody knows for sure. Was making the same point earlier in the thread to people calling Geertruida a snake for speaking to Liverpool

Totally agree about his game time and WC chances. He’s not a guaranteed player for the Netherlands so this will really help him

Our defensive options without Gerty:

Hume
Mukiele
Ballard
Alderete
09
Reinildo
Cirkin

Hume, Mukiele and 09 can play in more than one position, but an injury or two out of them and we will look massively short.

I still think we need to get in at least one defender on loan.

Yes an injury to Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete or Reinildo and the drop off is quite big (maybe harsh on Cirkin but he’s a bit unknown)

I don't think its a massive drop off tbf but you need at least 8 defenders you can rely upon to drop in at any time.

I do think this is one to remember when people think we can just collect players and keep them happy to have 20 minute cameos or for ‘just incase’

Quality players want to start every week. Not an easy one to balance
This I agree with. He's a top quality player who came to us from a team in the Champions League with a reputation for being extremely good. Managing egos is a massive part of football management nowadays and its a shame this one looks like its getting away from us.
He barely got 5 minute spells in the Championship. He can't really be relied upon at this level.

Connor Bradley was badly injured on 8th January, leaving them badly exposed at right back, especially considering the amount games they have.
I'd be amazed if Liverpool didn't quickly assess the situation and come up with this solution straight afterwards, given the strong connection between Slot and Geertruida.

I’d be gutted if it was Nordi, Alderete, Diarra, Sadiki, Xhaka but it’s not, it’s Gerty. Not sour grapes I just think he’s bang average and we’ll find better.

This point was made on a podcast a while ago when people talked about finding a Xhaka replacement/back up.

Where do you find someone of or near that level who is happy to sit on the bench most weeks. It’s very difficult.
