Geertruida

He’s had far more excellent games at hybrid rb/rm than poor ones imo. Liverpool away and palace at home stand out to my mind. There’ll be others too.
He’s not good enough on the ball. Comfortably below the rest of the squad in terms of pass completion (though mukiele is technically because those statistics include long throws)

This has actually wound us up to be honest if true. The caveat being if true of course.

It’s all fair playing nicey nicey when we’re in the championship and need to attract players who want to kick on. But as a PL team, with aspirations to be a top ten regular, why would we not stand in the way of a team only a few points above us taking a very valuable player a few days before the window shuts, just because they need some strength in depth.

Of course Liverpool are bigger than us and the player will want the move. But you don’t see Brighton or Brentford just lying down and “not standing in players way”. They’d have Liverpools eyes out if there’s an optional fee they’d buy him and sell him to Liverpool themselves for a profit.

If there isn’t an optional fee, why not just keep him till the end of the season. May as well use the asset we have.

By the sounds of it, we’re now forced to find a replacement a few days before the window shuts (a window that everyone is saying there’s a struggle to do deals at a reasonable price). Or we’re left short in a couple of positions.
Few days,it shuts tomorrow at 7

Doubt if theres any fixed sum , it will all be by negotiation but if Downie is right and theres no recall clause we would have a strong hand in that so we'll definitely click a bit . Wonder if Leipzig have anyone else we have fancied ?

Yan Diomande

The joys of not being one of the big guns. Do well, players get picked up.

Fingers crossed any replacement is as versatile and fits in straight away.

He has only started 10 games here and it's a World Cup year, so I have no doubt he'll want away, irrespective of how many minutes he has played overall.

Not sure how going to Liverpool solves his playing time issue mind, but it'll be hugely disappointing to lose him as he's a PL level RB, CB and DM. You don't really get versatility like that any more these days, especially not for the widely reported £18m reported fee to make his loan permanent.

Losing one player in Geertruida loses depth for us at 3 positions.

You can't argue with our results, but I do feel he has been underused and it'll be a definite blow to suddenly lose a versatile player like him who we had wrapped up in a bow for an £18m option.

It does explain why he was a no show against West Ham mind as everyone thought it was extremely odd.

Post after post  it was about 2 on this thread and people didn't like it being pointed out hes nowhere near the same level.
You left a couple of comments about 09. One been “ Head in hands if he comes on tomorrow” Then another dig at him when you mentioned “ All is well we have Luke to step up” Patronising comments.

Fwiw i think you are one of the better posters on here you no what you talking about and i agree with alot of your posts but you do like getting alot of digs in about O’Nien for no apparent reason

1) He’s a very good player but doesn’t get in to our first choice defence or midfield. Which is remarkable really and shows how far we’ve come in a very short space of time.

2) I trust the people who got us to where we are now to get a quality replacement in.

People need to chill on this one.

Aye, today and tommorow is a few isn’t it

I presume to be fair we’ve known about this for awhile surely, so my little vent probably was a bit over the top, Obviously you imagine the club will have a plan and we’ll have to wait and see.

I’ve wanted us to bring another left footed central defender in all season.

Now I’d rather us bring in another midfielder if that’s all we can do. 2 would be ideal.

I agree we need someone else in at leave and I think we’re all in agreement here. I just don’t think we need to single o9 out in every post
One silver lining in this is that it gives us space to better cover lcb. In my view we were a bit pinned at centre half by Lutsha in a way. Didn’t really have squad space or foreign player space for another. If LG leaves it opens up a space for someone like Lucumi as a long term target who plays lcb but could also play rcb so isn’t too pigeonholed.

Both their right backs are injured, and they’re struggling at centre half (Konate has been absent, and is out of contract in the summer, VVD needs a break and Gomez is made of Niall Huggins)
