Geertruida

Difference between a soft touch and respectful. Let the player go and wish him all the best. That will bode better when looking at bringing in future players. See for example the way Newcastle handled the Isak affair. I'm sure players will be wary of this.
Yes, but there has to be a way of doing it where we are well compensated.

We can't just let clubs force our season long loans to be cut short without us getting something equal or better out of the deal (I'm not saying this isn't the case).

"Won't stand in his way due to the scale of the opportunity" and "no break clause in the deal".

I do appreciate our stance on that when we were in the Championship where we were very much of the view that not blocking PL moves would ultimately encourage more players to come here, but now that we're actually in the PL and losing him makes us lose depth at 3 positions (we obviously won't be signing a PL level RB, CB and CM in January), I'd be a bit more selfish if I were the club here like.
Have to agree. We should foster good relationships as much as possible but this is really giving us a big headache. We also play Liverpool soon so why we should be so nice? Time to make a stand I think. However the player might be asking to leave. Can we afford to keep someone who wants out?

Of all the players I thought we’d lose gert was at the bottom mind. FWIW I don’t think it’s that big of a miss tbh. Some good games, some bad games.

I’m not sure what position we replace him with.

Arthur Avom and Dahl are two players I liked.

Geertruida nothing more than a squad player imo anyway, he needs replacing but not sad to see him go
The thing with losing Geertruida is we're effectively losing one player that can play in a few key positions. It leaves us light in defence and cm. Can't see us signing a CB and CM in the next day can you?

It sounds like Leipzig are meant to be getting double the money they would've got from us if we used our clause to sign him for about £17m.

Likelihood is that we will ask for quite a chunk of that profit to see the deal go through.

Club already wanted a CM this window without this happening, so wonder if the replacement will be a CB/RB as if not we’re quite light again at the back. The Athletic believe the club have the replacement sorted and are pushing to make it happen.

At the end of the day he's not first choice in any position he plays. His versatility is obviously a massive help at times. We're fine at right back and centre half so if we can get two holding midfielders in to cover himself and Xhaka while hes out then let him go if he wants to go.

Oh I thought Liverpool just wanted a straight loan. I'd be more inclined to request a player from Liverpool for the rest of the season tbh. Maybe Jones or Chiesa?

It’s fair to bring Luke into the conversation on this thread like. He’d be the player getting geertruidas minutes and I don’t think it’s controversial to say that’s a decent drop in quality.
Gerty isnt getting minutes if all available,so if we want somebody to do a few minutes here and there 09 is the boy.Really strange obsession with a few posters relating to Luke.
