I feel old. But Happy Birthday to Gary Rowell. Imagine scoring a hat-trick at the the landfill….and I was there to see it.

By that I mean, can you imagine, as a Sunderland fan scoring a hat-trick there ? It would be the pinnacle of your life. Mine anyway.
About sept last year Met some folk from Burnley where he now lives, who know him very well as he married a relative of theirs and they said he has been quite ill and has had iirc bone marrow transplant, they knew of his legend status and also the infamous number 1 is Gary Rowell song

Rowell is remembered by Sunderland supporters for scoring a hat-trick for Sunderland in a 4–1 win away at local rivals Newcastle United on 24 February 1979. Describing the match later, he said "When we hit the 4th I had a chat with Kevin Arnott about whether to try for a fifth or just to take the piss. We decided to take the piss."
