You lot need CEX (Entertainment Exchange)

That's quality. The one in the arndale smells of sweat like but you're not in it long so you can just about get away with it

we have a Cex too, i only use it to trade in my old games for in store credit, works out better that way

It's probably a bit like Kodak. Their core business depended on film so they were intrinsically reluctant to push digital as it threatened their established business.

I'd imagine it would've been very difficult for Game to pursue a strategy of undercutting its own retail stores, which make up the bulk of the company.

Of course in hindsight they'll wish they had done it, but their natural instinct would've been to try and protect / push the stores.

Kodak came through though, they realised they were about photos/video so opened up their model to take in other forms of income against that core specialism.
Game should have realised that downloading/online purchase was an additional stream they could pursue, but only went at it half heartedly.

This is about shit management (also deonstrated by multiple stores in small towns), not benefit of hindsight.

Kodak filed for bankruptcy in January :consfused:

hate cex you only have a 48 hour turnaround if the games faulty, if you work your basically fucked if you get a faulty game

I've never had a problem buying stuff from cex, however the place often reeks, there's some right scruffs that get in there.

aye, was talking about the situation 8-10 years ago when digital photography took off. Recently the american owners stripped some businesses from them, or something like that IIRC

The one in the Arndale in Manchester properly hums.
It's like a sweat shop in there.

Whats the craic with Game now? Their sites back up and running so they been saved or sumit?

Went on the site and theyre trying to sell NHL 2010 and NBA 2008 on the main playstation screen under popular games, selling them for 24 and 38 quid a piece, trying to trick people into thinking they are the new ones?

A mate said that someone bought them and saved them. Don't know who and for how much. That's shocking selling those games for that price as well, although it doesn't really surprise me that much.

An investment group called opcapita took them over and bought the remaining 330 odd stores.

Game cards and outstanding warranties still valid iirc.

The shops still open in town? they got announced they were closing them like but havent been anywhere near it to see if they are or not. Think ive got about 15 quid on a card, so going to get it spent up before they close for good

Nar the shops that were shut won't be reopening, Shields and Sunlun included. Think the nearest one to us that remains is in Newcastle.

a good chain to buy really.

all someone has to do is close down the loss making stores, make the profit making ones more profitable and slowly move their main source of income towards online sales.

simple.

The one in town next to TESCO was open a few days ago mind.

No wonder they are struggling. The Metrocentre store was charging £22.99 for pre-owned battlefield 3. You can buy it in Grainger Games and other places for £16.

Rip off merchants.
