A few month ago there was an interview with Kelsey Grammer where he said the rough plot outline was he'd set up somewhere else in the US with his work so the rest of the cast aren't returning.

i think i read the same article, for some reason i thought he'd said the character had moved to somewhere like Chicago.

He had, final episode was him supposed to be heading to San Fran (I think) but ended up getting on a plane to Chicago instead
