Four day working week - a success

Being soft lazy bastards is why we are crumbling
I think there is an issue with a small minority who are absolutely workshy.

However, I'd argue theres been an issue with workshy bastards for a long time.

I would have cleaned bogs when I left school rather than claiming dole.

But, the country is falling apart more because of huge levels of corruption, tax avoidance and the top 5% of earners getting substantially richer whilst the bottom feeders are being shit on. Coupled with a complete lack of investment in public services.

Your comment that women should be at home running the household is nonsense and would rob the workforce of millions of brilliant minds and people who are irreplaceable.

If you can do 5 days work in 4 days without extra long days then there’s a productivity issue.
As it states it’s not a one size fits all but people have choices and can decide what’s best for them.
So long as people remember the private industry needs to make a profit and it’s not a charity.
If companies genuinely believe that a 4 day week is more productive what’s to stop them reducing salary’s and making people part time.

They lose the talent. Obviously. And the benefits. Part of it is motivated and energised staff maximising output in a shorter time. Part of that is not dropping the wedge. Most of these success stories are from the private sector.

My missus wanted to go down to a four day week and in the end negotiates 4.5 so finishes at half 12 on a Friday .

Same money but has to do an extra hour or so Mon to Thursday which she generally did anyway

Works for her..

I'd happily do an extra hour mkn to Thur to knock off at lunchtime Friday.

Some businesses it's very feasible for many workers it's not

That's not the same though Epps lad. This trial is reduced hours, same coin.

It’s attributed to be the a significant reason why there’s a recruitment crisis in education resulting in an increasing number of your bairns being taught GCSE’s and A-Levels by non-specialist teachers or by teachers from overseas with no knowledge of the curriculum or worse, an English accent which is difficult for children to comprehend. As recently as a year ago this was a London / Home Counties only problem, now it’s increasingly common in the NE.
Eight schools I know of are now structuring timetables so teachers get all of their planning, preparation and assessment time (PPA) on one day to allow for a 4 day week.
Another two local schools have experimented offering 0.8 contracts paying staff 80% of their wage but allowing them to work 4 days.
It’ll be interesting to see where education goes with the 4 days a week concept. On the face of it it seems impossible but recruitment issues are resulting in more schools offering a more flexible approach.
