Forthcoming gigs.

Anyone been to a gig at The Launderette in Gilesgate? Mate wants me to go see Martin Stephenson ... £23!
Yes. Superb, very intimate, 50 capacity ? It generally fills up fron the middle...to the back....to the front as the front row is almost uncomfortably close to the artist.

£23 for MS doesn't seem too much TBH

I really enjoyed Black Midi, whilst I thought they were very good, I think I enjoyed being part of a sell out crowd who were going mental from start to finish. It was absolutely heaving in there.
fair play to rough trade, they’ve marketed and created an unbelievable hype around them. Musically it wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be although they covered many genres and improvised jams.
The singer has to be one if the strangest / interesting front men I’ve seen in a long time.
really enjoyed the Message in a bottle cover and the encore of Fat Sams Grand Slam was just bizarre.

@Kevsgreat what did you think mate ?

Just noticed Flaming Lips have a tour of 4 or 5 random venues around the country- I know there’s a few fans on here. Still tickets for Liverpool but it’s a Monday night.

Could be tempted by Bambara & Flat Worms.

Got tickets for Toots at Wylam, Rifles at the Sage & I think Lee Scratch Perry. Along with Kubix & Stone Valley.

If I had the time or money, there’s loads of good young guitar bands about at the minute playing small venues.

They were proper jazzy with that sax guy playing with them. Gave them a slightly different sound from the album on the tracks I recognised

Riverside wasn't oversold like I thought it might be, decent crowd there.

I didn't think they needed to play Message in a Bottle like. Didn't fit the set for me. I enjoyed it overall though aye, good gig.

Was at Sam Fender last night. Whilst it was an excellent performance it was far too mag heavy for my sensitive mackem tendencies. Came across as a massive spenk in truth.
I thought the gig was class, the best sound I've heard in the Academy. I don't like it as a venue but thought the sound lads got it spot on and as homecoming gigs go, I thought it was great. You can tell him and his band are clearly loving it at the moment and really enjoying themselves which is good to see.

I thought he came across well but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt - a geordie lad playing his hometown so he's bound to go on like that. If anything it was the crowd chanting toon toon etc which he reacted to more than anything I guess.
Before he did any of the Newcastle guff, he actually said that he's been told not to. He probably just doesn't give a fuck in his home town.
I saw Dean the guitarist shaking his head when he started his Ashley rant... Sam wasn't arsed.

message in a bottle was random definitely. My gripe was that they played pretty much identical to the original. Would have been better in their own improvised way. Must have played it simply because they were in Newcastle despite vast majority of people being out of town students.

thought the new stuff they played sounded great though.

I went to see Kirk Brandon from Spear Of destiny there last week. I loved it. A great little venue giving a totally unique atmosphere.
