Filling the stadium...

But surely (and using this forum as a guide) people are really enthused by Short’s departure and the new owner’s mission statement. I really don’t think most people expect anything other than a very successful season.
And as that season progresses I'm sure more people will come back.

Simply lowering the price might bring some in but if we don't win quickly they will be the first to moan/leave as they have less investment in the club. You have to value it somewhere, if you lower price to something like £50 people who have tickets won't turn up because they aren't fully invested. You want it to be pitched right (and it is, imo).

I’d guarantee that if the new owners announced it today there would be a totally different response on here to the replies I’ve had.
I'm not sure I'd want them devaluing the club like that. The price is fair and to just slash prices would seem desperate. Let the 'hardcore' and the players sort it out this season and people will come back.

Show me a matchday supporter who didn't think the matches weren't pretty shit and joyless in the most part last season.

Sunderland supporters continue going to support the club in the hope that things change. Hopefully they do this year.

Of course it was shit and joyless but that doesn’t mean those fans who stopped going last season couldn’t be enthused again. Yes, we could take the route of letting it be results led but we could also try being proactive and filling the stadium from off and just giving the aura of being far too big for L1....momentum has to start somewhere.

I'm actually going to go back for a few games. I know a few supporters who are as well :D

That stadium is awful with 20,000 in...an absolutely soulless place.

Season tickets are very reasonably priced. Match day tickets are not.

Vast majority of games were £30 last season by the time booking fees were paid online. Fewest games I’ve ever been to in a season and still spent £200 to watch the absolute dross that was served up.

Some of the bollocks on here man. 47k attendances under big sam.

even under Moyes 40k and just under 40k turning up.

This year this has been less than 20k, villa at home no way the club can say over 20k turned up.

Fill the stadium by winning games, not by offering large discounts, people havent stopped going because of the price, it's because they feel disconected with the club and are unwilling to pay money to make crap players rich.

Strange we had a full stadium in the premiership

Ok, guarantee something that cannot be proved. Prices have been and are rock bottom already, the apathy and indifference has lifted a bit since the takeover but we're still a good way away from decent numbers returning. People are now out of the habit and it'll take a team to be proud of before they start getting back into it.

Most people chucked in going the exact same season after we got relegated. Are you saying that was a coincidence Teed lad? You were in the tiny minority in doing the bit in bold.
No, I'm saying that's when I chucked it, I know lots of people around the 50 to 70 age group that stopped after going for years because they've just had enough, the final straw if you like, take a look at the club man, it's been plain to see, it was run like a circus for years, every club has a percentage of fans that go because they want to watch top flight football, not everyone that goes to the SOL are Sunderland fans, we get a fair few that attend the Uni that go, some people that just like to watch a match, business people there for the day out, etc, I'd imagine there's a fair few wouldn't entertain third class football and who can blame them, you have to concider how much damage has been done over the years, the clubs lost thousands of fans, lots of them wear black and white now, that's the way it goes, it's down to the club to try and win these fans back, the only way to do that is to win games, cheap tickets aren't the answer.

By offering large discounts and refunds to those who’ve already paid. How many do you think we’d sell at say £200 and if was cost neutral to the new owners would it not be a great way to kickstart the new regime.
Discounts! No chance, the monies collected so far from ST's has been used to sustain the wages for the losers and Rodwell.

But 20,000 have only just thrown the towel in. The best time to get some of them back is before they get totally out of the habit.

It’s a new era and the owners should do everything they can to start that era on the front foot. Ffs people were creaming their pants at the thought of being given a paintbrush and a turnstile to paint yesterday but filling the stadium at no extra cost and creating an atmosphere is seen as ridiculous.....people on here man
