Disagree, most on here, me included, expected Xhaka coming here for a last payday. Not in my wildest dreams did I expect the influence he has brought this season. Signing this kid would take us to the next level in club stature, although I don’t actually think it’s genuine. However KLD said he wanted us to compete not just survive in the Premier and I didn’t believe that either!!!!!

I doubt most on here would have thought Xhaka came here for just a last payday. He was getting well paid at his former club in an easier league who are in Europe. He came here to lead ,set the standards and rise to his toughest challenge yet. The mans mentality is infectious and hes proving to be a real leader on and off the pitch. I think people are sleeping on the fact that the purchase of someone like Fermin would be seen as a pure asset, it’s how we grow the club further it’s actually the next step,

We’re talking about if to be believed €80m it would be class if we could spend that on an asset and potential and hopefully one day soon we get there but that’s way to much for us to spend on one player at the current level we are at. I’d be shocked if we’d spend that any time soon on one player. I reckon we’ve probably asked about his situation been told the figures and backed off. Or we’re simply being used by his agent to get a new deal and more playing time of Barca themselves to smoke out interest.

Aye aim high. Let’s not think about replacing a decent first team member for a much better one. Let’s buy a past it player and replace a bairn that has very little chance of ever coming on. That’s where the focus should be

I thinks we’re becoming just an easy link for jornos and agents looking to get either interest in their player or touch for new contract talks. We’re not spending double our record in a young lad from Barca man it would be class but we’re not at that stage yet. £60m could be used elsewhere better and the recruitment team will have targets to improve us but a signing like this is for when we’re in Europe etc and have way more funds. £60m would take up a huge chunk of our headroom just can’t see us spending it all on one young lad however good he maybe. Then there’s actually convincing him to sign. Barca do weird deals too, like real they sold that young lad to como and have a buy back for a few million more than they sold him even though in reality he’s worth two or three times that now.

I actually think that's exactly the type of signing we should be trying to make now.
We already have a really strong squad, we just need 2-3 fantastic players to improve it and become a club fighting for Europe every season.
If we can attract this level of players, that's another thing, but we certainly need to test the waters.

Why not? If we stay up we get 100m, and that’s pretty much guaranteed now really. Plus we have player sales in the summer too, and any investment from our owner.
