They can normally lift DNA or fibres off the seatbelt the time of impact to prove who was driving.The problem would be proving who was driving, if there were three of them. I'm guessing that's why they're asking for dashcam footage of the car before the accident.
There was a similar case in a tv documentary last year where two of the occupants in a car were saying the other was driving when it crashed, and it was only months later they proved who it was from clothing fibres trapped in the driver's side seat belt.
