Fan Interactions with Other People in the Capital

Walked around London all day yesterday with my Sunderland top on and was congratulated by every football fan. Even a few foreign tourists spotted the colours and gave a shout for Sunderland. We walked into a Wetherspoons near Bank at 12 and was cheered into the pub by Spurs and Brighton fans. Got talking to a few and said that they had family in Fulwell & Roker! Brighton fans were over the moon that Tommy scored the winner but they all think that he won’t play much of a part next season. We were then clapped out!

Sunderland do take over everywhere they go. Every corner we turned the whole weekend, was red and white. The scenes on Saturday night were unbelievable, I truly believe that there were more Mackems than tourists. Every pub was packed: The Harp, The Round House, The White Lion & The Nags Head.

The best moment after the game was in Tottenham Court Road tube station around 9.30pm. Got off the tube and heard someone playing Elvis on guitar. We recognised it straight away and legged it to him and started singing with him for about 5 minutes and other SAFC fans to the bemusement of tourists and I think the busker .

Also a mention for the police on the Saturday night in Covent Garden, outside the Nags End. Absolutely superb! They were all class and they all acknowledged how big of a win this was for us. One of them taking photos with all of us giving us his hat and everything.

Overall, a weekend that I will never forget ever. From start to finish, it was packed with excitement, nervousness and happiness. The weekend would not have been what it was without every other Sunderland fan in London! I’m proud of where I come from. I’m proud to be a Mackem. I’m proud of being a Sunderland fan. HAWAY THE LADS 🔴⚪

Memories are made of days like these.... Lap it up, drown in it, bottle it up.

We went back to Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden after the match and on our way up Whitehall, had about 10 people who looked like foreign students come up and randomly gave me and Josh hugs and a couple of them shouted Ha'way The Lads.

Turns out they were in Covent Garden on the Friday and loads of our lot were being genuinely friendly to them and one even offered to buy them drinks because they couldn't get into the bars.

Sounds like we had a big impact on quite a few there.

That's mint.

On my way home to East London on Saturday I called in the pub and couldn’t move for strangers coming up to me and wishing me well. Walked up the road with a takeaway and was stopped 4 times and had people shouting “come on Sunderland” and “up the mackems” out of car windows as they went past. Absolutely surreal.

I honestly think Sunderland ‘Til I Die has done so much for us as a club. People know what we’re about and what we’ve been through.

Tremendous that. Real football fans know what we’re all about, where we’ve been, what we’ve been through and where we deserve to be.

Must have been typing the same thing at the same time 😂

Yeah, Netflix showed the world what we are for better or worse.

Norwegian lad in casino, saw my son at the bar in the casino and insisted on buying the drinks, the Leo link 😂

Charlton fans on tube yesterday morning also great with us.

Also saw on Twitter someone asking on Friday at Trafalgar what we had won, err we don’t play until tomorrow 😂😂
Just remembered was a cov fan and a West Brom congratulated us too.
