England in NZ

Burns is slapping them all ower

They’re ticking along nicely today. But there’s always that feeling that we’re a wicket away from implosion. There’s no Trott, Thorpe or Collingwood in this side that you know will churn out a score.

Sibley deserved to be selected and must be given plenty of time however in my view the selectors were absolutely right not to select him during the Ashes series. His game was never going to get runs against the quality of that attack and would only have destroyed his confidence before he had a chance. However he has been given his chance in NZ on unexpectedly flat pitches and in this test without their best bowler. Every test attack in the world has quality but he wont get it much easier than this, he needs a decent knock in the second innings just for his own self belief.

Exactly everybody seemed to be suggesting during the Ashes that Sibkey should have been selected for that series.

The likes of Cummins and Hazelwood would have had his number on them wickets.

We are unlikely to win from here, but it's all about development. I think it would be a decent achievement to match their first innings score.
