Eng Vs SA at Durham

It’s a over reaction as normal we have quality white ball cricketers, lose a few games and reaction way over the top.

Some very short memories
You only need to have a short memory to see the glaring errors in both player selection, shot selection and field placing in recent games plus missed catching and stumping opportunities by the new skipper. SAffers showed how to build a competitive score on a large outfield yet England's middle order either couldn't or wouldn't adapt tactics. If this is Mottball better we mothball it.

A team plays well for years spanning many many games, and then as a couple of off days which happens in sport.

England have a cracking side and will beat South Africa a hell of a lot more than they will beat us.

They had a off day that happens in sport, always has always will.

They did not assess the wicket and conditions as well as the opposition that is undeniable.

The proof will be in the pudding.....

It will mate and you may be right.

However I do feel this England one day side of the last several years and performances produced over them years, deserve a bit more leeway and trust, think they earned it imo.
Sentimentality has no place in elite sport, got to perform. If some players are in decline, say thanks and move on. Having said that, winning the toss was a must yesterday imo.

Are they on decline or have they had a few bad games
Yeah the last bit

Very much think a bigger sample of games needs to be assessed before deciding if these quality players are in decline rather than a handful of them???

Performances had been tallying off pre-the new regime, otherwise neither Stokes nor Morgan would have retired and they're very big shoes to fill. The transition would have been seamless if Morgan had reverted from player to coach imo.

Yeah good point, very difficult to argue with that last sentence.

Think Stokes retired for different reasons though and the basis of the side still very good imo

It will be a mixture of some loosing form, some in decline plus if replacement available.

Loosing can become a habit, we’ll have a better idea by 19:00 on Sunday.

When did Moeen last score 60 plus for England?

When did Rashid last take 4 wickets in an odi?

@Voice of fair play

All these questions relate to experienced players not achieving feats that once were regular during the run prior to winning the world cup

Can they lift themselves to climb the mountain again?

Sooner or later a new team has to emerge

I'm surprised people are criticising Durham CC mind. I thought they got everything spot on. I couldn't have had a single complaint at all.
Got to have something to moan about I suppose. I thought it was well organised. Shudder to think what moaners would have been saying if there had been a shortage of beer.

Fair comment, but who have we got to remotely challenge to replace either Rashid or Moeen. To me the problem is who replaces Stokes and Morgan. Brook and Salt for me. Not impressed with Livingstone at all other than offering a sixth bowling option.

I’m just giving examples that though we don’t have clear replacements, there are alternatives which will have to be tried sooner or later

parkinson has had a little go for leg spin and I feel Moeen is going to have to contribute more than he has in recent times and remember in the World Cup , he was dropped for the latter stages

we had a four year process to winning the World Cup and imo, I cant see most of yesterdays team, starting in the World Cup proper when it comes around again

most of them will not play a 50 over game outside internationals before then anyway

Yeh,we've got to rebuild almost a whole team which makes it even more ridiculous that Morgan hasn't been utilized in this process.
