Eng Vs SA at Durham

Just back, cooled off with cold shower and poured a drink.

Regarding any criticism of Durham earlier in the thread, I thought they were spot on today. People have to take some responsibility themselves. I was doing 8-10 overs in the trapdoor then ducking out for 2-3 overs under the stand in the shade. There was a ridiculous queue for water between innings when everyone was out but the staff cottoned on and came out with additional bottles to top people up in the queue.

Lad 2 rows behind me passed out about 7.00pm but according to his mates he’d had 24 pints. I mean WTF!

Few people feeling the heat under the stand when I was ducking out but plenty of stewards and ambulance staff with them together with Durham staff going round them with buckets and bags of ice.

Got a laugh with a lass sitting behind me who said to me ‘ee it’s so hot I’m going to have to go and get myself vibrated’ I presume she meant hydrated but what do I know!

Son in Law and Dad travelled from Alnwick, trains down, no bother.

Train back was cancelled but earlier train was “on time”.

They left early, train cancelled, had to offer £120 cash for taxi home, loads at CLS Station stranded.

We went to The Wicket Gate, in the ground, 9.40pm, no draft, tills off, closed.

What a f**kng shambles, public transport, rubbish.

I’d just like to comment on Durham’s staff, they clearly all left there normal jobs, some even suited up dishing water out. They were absolutely amazing. About 4/5 behind the County Durham stand dishing out water. Filling 5l bottles up at a time and running about from taps filling it up. I hope they kept themselves hydrated too. They were fantastic on an unprecedented day of heat - not sure you can facilitate the infrastructure for a freak day of 38 degree weather.

I agree the staff did a great job. My issue was that before they remedied the water situation the Qs were enormous. I waited about 45 mins in blazing sun to get water. I feel that the club/ECB should have had this under control from the outset. It’s not as if the temperatures weren’t predicted

Not quite sure how you facilitate 16,000 people, filling 2 or 3 bottles up at a time a sufficient amount of water tbh. We just don’t have the infrastructure in this country. It’s not as if it was just one bottle for the entire day - it was a lot of water.

If anything, the game should’ve probably been called off but that would’ve been an ECB decision.

More water and more staff? They managed it after about 4.30pm so why not earlier?

Perhaps you should have made sure you had a reasonable ammount to drink with you before crowds built up. Still got to have something to moan about.

No way should the game have been called off.

What a bunch of moaners. Instead of having a pop at everyone else have a look in the mirror. We knew well in advance that it was going to be hot, we were told over the weekend to be prepared for disruption on public transport, plan accordingly. The club did a brilliant job staging the game.

I think you are missing my point my friend. I and others were well prepared. The fact that the club had to make extra arrangements shows to me that they weren’t.

This isn’t just a case of being inconvenienced by having to wait, it was a safety issue.

And if you had read my original comment, I was agreeing how well the DCCC staff had done to put this right.

But you had a pop at the end.
We are not geared up for these temps, they are for now exceptional. The question is will we be prepared next time, not just Durham CCC but the country. Durham CCC probably, the country unlikely.

On the cricket side, Root again showed the value of playing the ball along the ground. There is no need to go for sixes off every ball, even when chasing a big total.

Generally agree with this. The club can't be blamed for public transport failings and the stupidity of fans who didn't bring water with them.

The Saffers themselves also proved this. Then you look at what Livingstone did . . . literally seconds after Root had come down the pitch to tell him to calm down.

SA had a game plan n stuck with it, no big hitting n ended up with a winning total which seemed to come from nowhere.
Van der Deussan must’ve been knackered, he spent most of our innings doing exercises but not fielding.

It's very difficult to plan for unprecedented circumstances at very short notice. You can't just erect new water points at short notice. It didn't take a great deal of imagination to realise that there'd be a huge demand at the interval so wise to go for your refills at some stage during actual play.

I did. I am not stupid, even though i might give that impression sometimes 😀

Why are people attacking the players? They were terrific under the previous coaches. This guy doesn't know what he's doing, shit appointment, needs gone.
It’s a over reaction as normal we have quality white ball cricketers, lose a few games and reaction way over the top.

Some very short memories

We do but we also have some who are playing atrocious shots without a care in the world

its a known thing when a team wins a World Cup , that the toll it took to get there, is not easily repeated and some fall quicker than expected

it happens in all sports, this and I personally don’t think this new coach, has the authority to stop standards falling

weve lost stokes and Morgan already, I don’t see the current replacements getting any where near those two

im worried about Jason roy continually falling to soft dismissals and his fielding is prone to error.

how many times is livingstone going to fall into the six and out tactic?

I’ve got a very long memory and I’m seeing clear warning signs
