Our full name is Sunderland Association Football Club, why wouldn’t it be used in shorthand to refer to us you dipshit? SFC could be confused with other club’s whose name begins with S - Southampton for one. And why the fuck would I be boring and sad enough to trawl the message boards of other teams?

All time top flight average attendance - Sunderland 9th highest and Leeds 10th
All time top flight total gate - Sunderland far higher
All time second division average - Sunderland higher
All time third division average - Sunderland higher

And yes the most that Leeds have ever had inside Elland Road just coincidentally happened to be against Sunderland.

Now some might argue these would show Sunderland were the better supported club. I mean the history of football is a canny large sample. I wouldn't argue that but its hysterical how Leeds fans see themselves in the same bracket as the Top 4 or 5 in the country. Biggish club, loyal fans but that's no different to plenty including us.

No they never . Great away support but during their time in the championship they had away games that failed to sell out even ones not that far away like Sheffield Wednesday and Boro . They took 900 to Cardiff for a midweek game, 3500 to Blackburn on a Saturday when they could have had whole end , Blues and Villa away also failed to sell out . One of the best away followings but it’s a myth they always sold out away. They like a few others now could sell a lot more away tickets than they get allocated.

You'd have to go back to the 55-60 years for any chance of trying to get over 40k into the ground and even then due to the size of the ground it wasn't really possible, most would be standing with a terrible view where you couldn't really see the pitch.

These are just excuses that don't add up. Leeds had plenty of attendances for individual matches in the 60s and 70s comfortably over 40K, so the Capacity allowed it. But clearly the interest/loyalty wasn't there across the whole season like it was for similar clubs like Villa, Sunderland, Everton and Newcastle.

These are facts that can be easily proven.

We won the FA Cup surprisingly after having a terrible couple of seasons. We survived on the final day in 94 with the Park End being rebuilt, and in the season we won the FA Cup in 1994-95 it took us 15 games to get our first win!

Comparing those years for Everton against Leeds in 92-04 when you had 8 x Top 5 Finishes and a League Title is extremely selective to suit your argument.

That's why comparing Leeds with other clubs over their whole history is more accurate. And as another poster pointed out, all time average actually helps clubs like Leeds as they joined the League much later on when Crowds were established in England by then. The older, historic clubs like Villa, Everton and Sunderland have all had our averages impacted in the early years by 10-20K average crowds as Football was just becoming popular in England as a Sport.

None of Villa, Newcastle or Sunderland had one single season during the 60's or 70's with an average home attendance above 40,000 so your statement about these are the facts can be easily proven and those clubs having the interest and loyalty that we didn't is quite frankly bullshit.
 
I know a few Leeds fans, decent blokes. Apart from '73 there is pretty much mutual respect between us all. Probably as the fa cup was 52 years go :lol:

1962-1965 Sunderland averaged over 40k for three seasons in a row in the period you mentioned. Come on do some proper research.

The way football should be. Unfortunately, the game has been taken away from and is becoming less accessible to working class / low income families.

Personally, and especially with the Saudis up the road. I’d love our club to continue bucking the trend in making football a community sport/accessible to people from every background.

It also amuses me how football supporters almost brag about their club being more expensive to attend! It most be the only thing in life folk enjoy paying more or getting ripped off for!!

Do Leeds or any other clubs fans phone up their gas/electricity or broadband/phone provider asking to pay more? So they can take the piss out of someone paying less for the same thing??

Weird behaviour and no wonder clubs take the piss with pricing
