Early Leavers - Again!

When the club is trying desperately to build a connection with the fans, which it did successfully with the 'til the end campaign and the generally positive relationship between players and fans this season, it must be galling for the players who are trying their hearts out on the pitch to see thousands not prepared to support their team until the final whistle.

It's not like a film where if you don't like it you leave the cinema early or skip a song if you don't like it on Spotify. This is our football club, it's different from any other form of consumerism, the whole point is there's an irrational love for an institution which, in Sunderland's case, would have lost virtually all support in recent years if it was simply about the product on the pitch.

Even if was just about 'the product', it's now at its best for a generation (and there have been lots of late goals this season, why would you leave early on Sunday at 1-1?) so that argument doesn't stack up either.

People who leave early are generally consumers, not supporters, who don't epitomise what supporting the club is really all about. It's almost become a badge of honour to leave early ffs. Support the lads 'til that end.
Roger…respectfully I disagree. Your argument is far too reductive. To say that anyone who leaves before the final whistle is not a ‘real’ supporter. Seriously? So the chap earlier in the thread who is leaving early at the Man City game, who has a 3 hour drive and work the next day is just a ‘consumer’? I agree football is emotive but questioning peoples’ love for their football club based on when they chose to leave a game simply doesn’t work. I wished I lived in Roker or the North East rather than deepest, darkest Lincolnshire. I would be last out of the ground if I did…but it wouldn’t make me anymore of a loyal fan. FTM.

Was expecting a thread, so I'm not disappointed I've started it!
There was a break in play on 85 mins, it started, twats up out of their seats tapping the person next to them. Out they went, really encouraging the team to give everything "Til the end" (NOT). What's the point of going to the match if at 3.50 on a Sunday afternoon you can't hang around for 8 sodding minutes 🤬🤬🤬🤬.
Rant over, but, I will no doubt be ranting again
This was always me.

But not left one early this season. Not many are going early. Didn’t notice many leaving early on Sunday.

But, when people leave, is their choice.

This will be horrendous on Thursday. As plenty will have to make alternative arrangements to be at the game due to public transport not being a full service.

One of the benefits of my seat is I've only got 3 steps to walk down turn right ,down the ramp and I'm outside the ground within 2 minutes

Til the end
Can't believe I've liked one of the above posters comments.
I imagine the people complaining are the poor fuckers that can’t see properly cos the early leavers are either squeezing past them or stood on the steps.
Exactly this. From about 85/86 minutes on my son couldn't see a thing in the Leeds half due to part-timers leaving early, pretty inconsiderate.
I get there are people who genuinely need to leave early, although they didn't a few weeks ago for a 2pm Sunday kick-off against the mags.
I don’t blame them for leaving early tbh, from the full time whistle it sometimes takes me 15 minutes to get from my seat to the concourse, an absolute ball ache in the south stand
We're the same at the back of the East Stand, it's been the same for every game, guess what, we just plan our day around it. If it takes 10 minutes to get out of the ground at full time, great, if it takes 20 minutes, so be it. If we're home at 5.30pm great, if we're home at 6pm, so be it.
