Durham mags.......

Not open for further replies.

identify themselves as "geordies" but don't make the criteria by not being from Newcastle, and don't support Durham city fc.......

And they'll always have to live with themselves knowing they're actually wearsiders
The term "Geordie" was hijacked post 1992.

Yes.

The Northumberland based Sunderland supporters don't put on ridiculous pantomime 'Mackem' accents.

They use their normal voices and accents.

The Durham Mags are pathetic beyond belief.

'Hooway tha Toon, wah grate us like bonny lad, why aye'
They do that in South Tyneside too mate. The natural softer accent here for example you'd say "Haway" in sentence such as "Haway man, lets gan for a pint".. But they go out of the way to say "Hoooowwway" and "Tooooon" as much as possible. Pathetic really.

Yes they are. Sunderland fans from Northumberland support us due to family reasons. Durham mags mainly just jumped on the Keegan bandwagon.
This. I've got family originally from Sunderland who moved to Ashington many years ago due to Mining. Red n White through and through and have Ayyyyshington accents.

Hardly an obsession. You support your local team. For County Durham that is SAFC. I'll give a little leeway to the Gateshead folk who are historically County Durham but north of the river is probably their local team. As far as my accent goes, I can't open my gob without some funny c*nt parroting me like it's never been done before.
You forgot "to be sure" at the end mate.

Dunno mate, we used to chant “Geordies, Mackems, Geordies, Mackems “ before the 90’s. But as said, when Hall took over the mags, he used the Geordie nation, sporting club of Newcastle shite, whilst buying up basketball and ice hockey teams. Then Newcastle fans jumped on board and decided that you can’t be a Geordie unless you support them. You see they can shout at shops and change history
This 1000%. It gets annoying when our own fans on here use the term Geordie for NUFC supporters. Playing right into the hands of Hall and insulting a good lot of our supporters in the process.

Durham mags are scum of the Earth.

I f***ing hate mags. Saw one come out of Greggs at the Viking Centre in Jarrow yesterday and I immediately hated the bloke. Filthy scummy bastards the lot of them. Too much nicey nicey on here regarding those dirty pigs.
I bet the fucker was confused and pissed himself trying to find Poundland anarl.

Don’t get me started on this. A lad I went to school with (from peterlee) gives me shit about stuff like “weez keez” and “Cheezy Chips and blue pop” we lived in the same f***ing street until we were 15 ffs
Now he’s claiming he “lovz tha toon”
I grew up in Hebburn (unsurprisingly) a stonesthrow from the Tyne. A few years ago while working in the Team valley a new lad started working with me and had a really thick and weird Geordie accent. Turned out he was from Durham and he considered himself more Geordie than me. He'd go out of his way to force the word "TOON" into a sentence with a very exaggerated accent. He was NUFC's biggest supporter but never went to any games. He was a horrible little cretin in many ways. He was very immature.

No doubt they will sing “Sunderland’s a shithole” at the SOL before heading home to their property within the City of Sunderland

It’s the same with the Washington lot
I walked into the Blue Bell in Washington one time and there was a bunch of pissed mags in there openly discussing that they wished a Mackem would walkin in so they could knife him. Then a lass got a glass smashed over her head. Lovely lot.
Prolly never seen a football game in thier life.

<<<This is the people I'm referring to.
This thread is not an anti geordie thread....far from it. Even though john hall hijacked the term in 92, neglecting the fact geordies supports other teams.
It's about people from the likes of Durham who put on a stereotypical made-for-tv fake geordie accent.
It's not truly representative of the real north east.

My favorites are the ones in the pub giving it Mackem this mackem that when somebody says - you used to go on the bus to roker with us in the 80‘s. No I never did that „arve allays bin a Geordie me“.
Wankers - all of them.

I'm a Shotley Bridge born Geordie who supports Sunderland.

I'll happily tell my Mackem mates that I find their accent harsh to my ears and would never make any attempt to copy it.

I won't use words, in real life, I don't like such as ket, marra, etc.

The Durham Mags who act 'arl Toon' make me cringe ..... it's absolutely pathetic.
Marra's not Mackem man Riv, it's pitmatic, I couldn't give a shite what people sound like, as long as they support SAFC, met a few good lads from Newcastle that are staunch SAFC fans.

I grew up in a Durham village in the 60's. Quite common for people to support that lot then, although more were for us as a rule.

Widespread regional support has always underpinned the crowd numbers of both clubs.

It is true however, as has been said here, that the absurd fake accents are a post Hall/Keegan phenomenon. Extremely odd behaviour, it really is. I only know a couple myself. But they are certainly old enough to to know better and cut utterly ridiculous figures each of them, affecting the strange twang only when attempting to get the upper hand talking about football.

Unfathomable.

I had no idea people were doing such a thing until this thread. Weird putting an accent unless for comedy effect.
Weirdos.

What street was it and how old is he??

Rainton Mags flag at the England game the other night. Sick!

West Rainton, Co Durham has always had a handful of Mags but the majority were Sunderland. I guess this is where the flag was from.
East Rainton, Tyne and Wear and in Sunderland, I'm going back 30 years but I never saw any Mags there.
Middle Rainton, D Category village was obliterated by the A690.

Bus I go on to away games sometimes picks up at Blaydon. Don't know what their history are connections are.
Quite a few mlf's in the tyne valley

I get it from a lad at work. He calls me a mackem bastard but he hates it when I correct and remind him that he is a born and bred Sunderland lad.

Weirdos.

Believe me it does, though why I cannot even guess at. Presumably they are the sort of weak characters who, after working in the South for a few months come back with a mixed up accent. Maybe, having got enthused by Hall's "Geordie Nation" rabble rousing they were similarly affected by the need to absorb another accent.

It is a very strange thing to witness, verging in the pitiable actually. Just why? One of my best mates has a thick Cornish accent having been brought up there. His dad moved back up here when he was about sixteen. Forty years later he still sounds like a bloody pirate, despite having had a ST at the hotch potch for donkey's years. If he can resist the delights of the North of the Tyne twang, you'd think anyone can!
