Durham ‘100 per cent committed’ to bringing Hundred franchise to north east

Yes, but he will have to be very confident of gaining support from elsewhere if the views on here reflect those of the majority of members and supporters. Which I suspect they might.
On here we're all Sunderland fans. No mag is going to take the moral high ground. Those not into football and/or politics aren't going to care about anything other than the financial security of DCCC.

It won't make the slightest bit of difference but i wonder what right we have of cancelling membership and demanding money back is if this does through

I started reading that article and when Bostock mentioned the scenario if they had a "powerful backer" I thought to myself I hope he's not referring to you know who and then I get to the final paragraph and guess who is mentioned?

"You don’t need to be a brain surgeon to see they are building a portfolio", but you'd need a lobotomy to think this was going to end well :(

This was absolutely inevitable once T20 changed the face of cricket in this country and the finances it brought.

The enormous success of the IPL just increased this inevitably.

Hopefully amongst all these changes they use the opportunity to change the competition to a T20 competition as the change to hundred balls was not necessary and not necessary going forward

I think it would be a case of tough shit though I'd not be arsed about it. I'd be happy just walking away and not be associated with them lot. I can see where this is heading and maybe explains a reason the 5 year ticket was removed

Spot on about the 5 year ticket. Exactly the same as when they ended life memberships when t20 first arrived 20 years ago. They just want ti sell t20 tickets.

Interesting times ahead. Bostock and North are very favourable of the 16.4 as both are invested in the Leeds based team. Given the attendances for T20 at Durham, I just don't see how the 16.4, could do any different. My only assumption is they must be expecting some heavy investment and that would be from them lot up the road. The 5 year membership wasn't even consulted with members which speaks volumes. I've said for a long time and continue to say the club need to do better off the field. See what happens.

To be honest it could even be that the county itself doesn’t exist in 5 years time, 8 to 10 franchises up for grabs in a top tier and maybe those franchises play all formats and encompass women’s cricket too, survival of the richest

Size of The Riv, imagine where the boundary rope will be for the 16.4?

Plenty of room on the grass for crisp adverts, or maybe even cigs? Perhaps even a mid range hatchback parked on the grass, with a boot full of crisps. Endless opportunities.

And I reckon DreRuss could put it through the car's open window with one of his trademark 'ASTONISHING AMAZING UNBELIVEBALE' thick edges. DO YOU? Well go onto twitter #thisisdefinitelynotaloadofoldshite and vote in our poll.

Bostocks little interview is just to give a few public titbits as to what is possibly in the pipeline and perhaps see what the reaction is.
As i mentioned earlier it will be interesting to see if Marty E will keep us updated at all during the winter. He is probably the only dedicated Durham journalist left.

The clubs a business at the end of the day and Bostock and North aren’t held accountable by members, if they get an offer of Bajillions to host as much cricket as possibly and build their hotel, they aren’t gonna be fussed if a couple hundred Sunderland supporting members bugger off sadly

The founding 1st class directors such as Tommy Moffit and Bob Jackson who were true grass roots men of cricket must be horrified at how their dream is turning into a nightmare.

Sickening.
Christ t20 matches are low key affairs st the Riverside (quoting Bumble) can you imagine what a franchise team would be like.
Less counties is the best way forwsrd fir Durham. Get the counties who consistently produce players for England via their academy better rewarded and thr ones that dont make them accountable.
I wouldn’t want to lose any of the counties. They’re 150+ year old institutions and are part of the fabric and what makes cricket in this country great. I enjoyed my trips to Grace Road and New Road more than I did Edgbaston and Trent Bridge last year.

I know where your coming from and if it was only in this country we could have more of a case but its world wide now. South Africa have got their Indian backed franchise tournament now the big bash basically has the main part of the Aussie summer and its extended xmas hols to itself. Thats before even mentioning the IPL

It’s obvious outside investment will be coming into the game eventually, just think I’d rather it was some Indian media, tyre or cement mogul than them
