Durham ‘100 per cent committed’ to bringing Hundred franchise to north east

I wouldn’t want to lose any of the counties. They’re 150+ year old institutions and are part of the fabric and what makes cricket in this country great. I enjoyed my trips to Grace Road and New Road more than I did Edgbaston and Trent Bridge last year.

Agree. Beyond belief that people inside the bubble couldn't care less about the clubs that disappear on the route. Maybe its not surprising tbf, alot of people are self centered narcissistic arseholes these days

Is there any chance they’d just be investing in the hundred franchise. Love my summers going to watch Durham but not sure I could if that lot buy them.

I take it that If, and it's a huge if, there would be separate membership for the franchise team? I certainly would not be taking one out. In fact I would have the square root of fuck all to do with it

To me 'a day at the cricket' is exactly that - a full day.

I've been to a couple of T20s, but prefer a much longer format - ideally 4 or 5 day cricket.

The idea of battling through the tea time rush hour to see an even shorter game does not excite me.

I'm out
Also, the article sys "Durham are currently affiliated to the Yorkshire-based Northern Superchargers" is that correct ?

Well kind of, ECB like to think thats how it works, decent number of players from Durham and Yorkshire, but definatley has more yorkshire feel and always win as long they play the games at headingley

Luckily this is not definite yet but I've got a feeling it's going to happen.

Bostock always seems to do what the ECB want. He voted for the three tier conference a couple of years ago. He also didn't push the issue when Surrey didn't bother turning up using the Covid excuse. He was even in line for the top job st the ECB and didn't get it.

The only advantage of being a host for a 16.4 franchise is the additional money. However I've heard it's only £110k per season. Note a lot especially when running costs of hosting it are taken into account.

Maybe not something I would go to much, but I think it would sell more tickets than people think. Many of my pals have been trecking down to headingley at their kids behest to take in some 100 games. Dont price it too high and it could do ok up here, although as usual the weather could scupper a season just like that!

Completely agree on Mags and Saudi though. Can't be doing with them.

Marty E keeps posting weve done better for weather than many other parts of the country for getting games on the last couple of seasons, thinks the riverside has its own micro climate :)

I think the hundred will do ok too, i cant really knock it, ive been to 4 games between headlingley and trent bridge, Mrs and the Bairn love it, feels move of an event than bog standard t20 game,
i know that effort could have been put into the blast but thats a different argument altogether

In what was a pretty shit summer weather wise we were very fortunate indeed to escape most of it and ironically the only home fixture that was hit by the rain was the T20 against Yorkshire.:D

I've just started to go back to the ice hockey this year down at Billingham and enjoying it very much. As for Durham Cricket, what will be will be, if it happens then I'd happily hand my membership card back as would the wife. I don't wish to be associated with Newcastle United or Saudi Arabia
Every time NUFC hit the hop half of the league, they start plotting to annex County Durham sports clubs. It's like living in central Europe in the 1930's.

As much as none of us want a Durham Hundred franchise

This is right out the tory minister spin play book. The lack of awareness in this part is f***ing laughable "Anson, however, is concerned any expansion would risk "undermining" the county game."

The hundred has already done that you f***ing twat, clearly doesn't know what the one day cup is

I imagine it would be like when he who shall not be named took over Hampshire - membership will cease to exist and we'll all be customers.

I'm not at all sure it will happen. When/if Ashworth sees the T20 attendance figures he would realise there would be a big sales job on; the Mags will always fill SJP come what may, but its a bit different at CLS.
